Consultant v dismissive of low ferritin - help!

Posted before but bit of bg. Very dizzy, light headed, breathless. Bad pains in my arms and legs especially when I walk. Finally got midwife to test ferritin and hb last week. Ferritin 7.9 and hb 98. Been on iron for 8 weeks 3 x daily. Basically she’s ordered an ecg for me and said an iron infusion won’t help me and they don’t usually give them unless your hb drops below 8. How much worse do I need to feel! I burst into tears and she was sympathetic but dismissive. Go back in 2 weeks and they’ll recheck my bloods. I have an appt with the midwife this afternoon. Do I need to insist they help me? I feel like I’m fading away but the consultant hinted my bloods wouldn’t make me feel so poorly. I’m at my wits end. The only other thing she could suggest was to admit me for monitoring Confused

Have they tested other things - vit D, B12, folate, thyroid?

Also there were 4+ blood in my urine and 2+ last week but apparently it doesn’t mean anything really in pregnancy and is probably from my cervix? I wasn’t sure if that was right either. But if I’m bleeding surely that won’t help my hb?

If they’re not being helpful I would (and have!) go to a site like Medichecks and order the tests they’re refusing.

I can ask my midwife to repeat my hb and ferritin today and she’ll probably do it. It’s getting them
To actually do anything about anything that seems to be the problem. I’m worried there’s 4+ blood in my urine.. and my hb is low?

Sorry sinkgirl no they haven’t tested those things as far as I know. Should I ask for those to be done?

If you’re feeling so unwell and they’re saying what they’ve found isn’t responsible then they should be looking for what it is! Lots of things can cause these symptoms so they need to do a wider range of blood tests IMO - full blood count may already have been done depending how far along you are.

The symptoms you mention could definitely be related to a vit d or b12 deficiency and thyroid issues can often present during pregnancy.

How far gone are you? Is baby measuring big? I was mildly anaemic and feeling a lot too crap for the blood levels recorded until baby dropped into my pelvis more at 35 weeks. Measuring way bigger than my previous!

I’m 35 weeks but measure on the smaller side Confused the head isn’t engaged yet so maybe I’ll get some relief then x
