Fever in early pregnancy- neural tube defects

Hello, I had a high fever for about a week when I was 6 weeks. Google has completely terrified me that it could have caused neural tube defects. Has anyone has any experience with this? I’m 10 weeks now so am wondering if something bad would be picked up at the 12 week scan or if I won’t be able to relax until after the 20 week scan!

I felt fine other than having a fever so it didn’t concern me until it got to 40.1!

Thanks in advance

@Teakind How did everything turn out for you?

@Yankee22 absolutely fine thank you. My son does have a sacral dimple though but apparently so do I so that could just be hereditary. It’s harmless.

Are you worrying about a fever in pregnancy?

@Teakind Yes, I caught a 24 hour cold right around the 5W6D - 6 Week mark. I ran a slight fever 100.6 F (38.1 C) but it came down really quickly with paracetamol although it stayed at the 99.6 - 99.9 range for that 24 hour period. Really been on edge because that is when the neural tube closes. I had a 12 week scan with two thumbs up, but my 20 week scan is now coming up and the worry is back!

I totally understand your worry but I think your baby will be absolutely fine.

I mentioned it a few times to consultants (was high risk because of gestational diabetes) and they said if a fever is going to have an effect they early on then it would cause a miscarriage.

Seeing as your 12 week scan was clear I think you can relax (I know easier said than done!)
