Hi

I am 17 week pregnant and we are starting to pick up bits and bobs for baby.

What size Pampers nappies are best to buy in advance 1 & 2, is it worth getting size 0(suppose family can pop out To get a pack if baby is small). Does anyone know anywhere to buy in bulk or good deals?

I have a little checklist of items to buy... has anyone come across a good checklist that is realistic of what is needed?

Thank You :)

I wouldn't buy too many nappies in advance as different brands suit different babies. We've always been fine with pampers but I know others who have babies they irritate. The different shapes of the nappies suit different body sizes too.

I've found pampers the best and Tesco or asda have them on sale every few weeks (if one doesn't the other usually does).
DS went straight into size one for a month or so but our nephew needed the micro size as he was premature.
I'd get a few ones and twos and then send someone to replace them.
DS is on size 4 now (14mo) and we brought 8 packs when they were last on sale! They grow a lot faster when they're younger though.

I've not given birth yet but I have been recommended by a lot of mums to buy Aldi nappies. Apparently they are very good and a lot cheaper than pampers

If you find you get on with pampers ones, it works out really good value to get them from amazon on subscribe and save

Thank you for all your advice! It’s always hard to judge for your first baba! May get some of Aldi’s to try too - every penny counts now hehe!

I wouldn't buy nappies in advance, as you don't know how big baby will be. DM bought us 3 packs of size 1, and DS2 only went through half a pack before we sized up.

I prefer Aldi nappies to pampers, they had a weird smell when wet.

I'd suggest buying 0-3 month clothes, and very few bits in newborn/0-1 month. You can always save the money you would spend and order clothes online when baby is here and you have his/her size. I spent a fortune buying DS1 clothes before he was born. He was a slow grower due to health issues and his clothes were the wrong size for the season, all his winter clothes that I thought would fit, completely swamped him.

I saved loads of money with DS2 by buying online when he started growing out of his clothes.

If you're planning on breastfeeding, stock up on breast pads and look for a few decent nursing bras. If you're planning on bottle feeding, then try not to go overboard on one particular brand, baby might be fussy.
