I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Sorry Priscilla I don't have any advice re gtt I'm afraid but I am sure someone else will have had one before.

I am very relieved to report that we saw a healthy kicking baby at our scan with a heart beat too. I have vomited quite a lot since in celebration! Will have a dating scan next week to confirm due date.

elpreggo27 · 24/10/2018 21:02

@LucindaE thank you xx

Foreverblues · 24/10/2018 21:41

Lucinda, just lactulose. Even when I went back and said it wasn’t working. Got a phone appointment on Fri.

But I’m trying as he advised without the zofran to see if the sickness is now constipation related and subsides. And if not I’ll get back on it.

Not helping that my 3 year old has a vomiting bug. Having to rule out whether I’m catching that, sick from the constipation, sick from coldsore/run down or sick from the morning sickness 😂 I wonder if I catch the bug if the ondensatron is a good or bad idea?

He’ll probably pass it on to me because he’s asked to get in bed with me tonight and was in with me for all his vomiting in the night last night. Here’s hoping it just goes away quickly for him though, nothing worse than seeing your child poorly.

Think there’s a lot going round hope everyone is keeping well x x

eallison88 · 24/10/2018 22:09

priscilla I've not been in the situation of needing a gtt (yet?!) but, frankly, I'd be telling him to sod their test . You are managing your hyperemesis and frankly not taking the meds or messing with the delicate food/drink system you're managing is bloody ridiculous. I understand it's an important thing, but they need to he pragmatic. Just told My husband what they were expecting you to do and he said "well they can f off and get a better fing idea". He agrees that I wouldn't be doing it if someone suggested something like that to me.

Sleep well everyone

Priscilla83 · 24/10/2018 22:15

@eallison88 thank you I just didn't know if I was being super sensitive or unreasonable. I'm at the hospital again on Friday for a cardio appointment so perhaps I'll just walk into the clinic and speak with someone. Night all

Mum2beeof3 · 24/10/2018 23:18

Hi all i just wanted to say hello and I’m so happy I’ve found this thread to talk to people who understand HG. I have just found out I’m pregnant with my third it was a shock to be honest! But I’m over the moon but so scared of Hyperemesis turning up again! I really am trying to be positive but I know it’s coming! I’m not sure how far I am yet as booked in for next week as just found out but demanded an appointment ASAP as I will need to start my tablets early. I got Hyperemesis 4 weeks with my first and had it right the way through to the 37 weeks when I was induced with numerous hospital admissions. Took me years to pluck up the courage to go through pregnancy again but when I did I got it about 6
weeks with my second and also right the way thru with multiple admissions but it was a bit better then the first time so I’m hoping with my third it may be better again! Just wanted to know if anyone had any tips that worked slightly for themas I’m opening to anything as I really want to try and stay at home as much as I can especially with having two at home. Thanks all and sorry for the long post x

Olivecake · 25/10/2018 06:55

Mum2beeof3 congratulations on your pregnancy!! I’m still pregnant with my first but there are lots on here who have been through it before who will be able to provide some great advice, one thing I would say to do is to book in now already with your GP and get started on anti sickness meds before it even gets too bad. There’s lots of research that shows the pre emotive method can stop it getting so bad as in your first. And check out the pregnancy sickness support website (I think it will be linked in the first post of this thread by Lucinda), they have a page all about preparing for HG when you’ve had it before and their helpline is a great source of advice.

Reastiepeace · 25/10/2018 07:47

Hi all, just quickly popping on to say to Priscilla last time I refused the GTT due to the fact I know it would’ve made the sickness dire. I got some Hmm faces from nurses who I think thought IWBU —but I didn’t care—. It did mean they had to treat me as if I had gd which meant I had to see a diabetic nurse who gave me a boood sugar monitor and I have to take regular readings and email them to her every week. For me that was worth not doing the gtt. They didn’t like that I refused and I got the impression it’s not the domenthing and people don’t often refuse but it was the right choice for me.

Mum2beeof3 · 25/10/2018 08:43

Thanks olivecake I’ve book in for this morning as I need it I honestly don’t want to live in hospital like the last two :( don’t really want everyone to know as I’m still really early and want my scan first as never got that far with the last two before people knew early due to sickness so hoping as soon as these get in system I may be able to hide it 🤞🏼
And yes refuse that glucose test I tried to have it with my first vomited it straight back up so they couldn’t do the test as hsnto stay down for a while I refused with my second and will do with this one xxx.

eallison88 · 25/10/2018 09:10

mum2bee get on meds straight away. That will give you the best chance of managing thus well. As soon as the meds stop working or stop working as well, get straight back to GP for different meds. This needs aggressive management.

Hope everyone had a peaceful night.

I'm trying scrambled eggs for breakfast. I've just had my IM ondansetron so it's the best time of day for eating. I figured it made sense to try and get something healthy and fairly substantial into me so that the rest of the day can just be grazing.

Priscilla83 · 25/10/2018 09:37

@Reastiepeace thank you. I'll see if I can speak with someone about it tomorrow when I'm at he hospital (the gtt is booked for 9th Nov so still have time). I don't see the point in making myself unwell and running the risk of making things worse again. I finally feel like I've got to understand how best to manage the hg - the meds & routine are a massive part of that. Hope everyone has a good day x

silversplodge · 25/10/2018 10:01

Sorry to hear of everyone's struggles lately.
The hospital have finally got back to me and I've been booked for colposcopy on 6th Nov. Feels a long way away still to be fretting if it's cancer but I know for suspected cancer referrals they do only say appointments will be within 2 weeks, no sooner than that
One day at a time.

SassehMonsta · 25/10/2018 10:36

I've given notice that I am refusing the GTT at my booking in appointment this week. Midwife said that's fine, I am happy to be treated as if I had GD as long as I don't have to do that damn GTT again. I had come out of the worst of the HG last time and was weaned off meds, but it almost made me vomit. If you do vomit, they have to start over I believe. Sod that!

beanhunter · 25/10/2018 11:35

Sat waiting for a review as vomiting def back and need Advice about my steroids as don’t want to go all the way backwards. I had really hoped the reason I was better was second trimester but turns out it’s just been the steroids.

elpreggo27 · 25/10/2018 12:32

Is anyone fed up of burping/throwing up bile in their mouth 24/7?

Priscilla83 · 25/10/2018 12:40

@elpreggo27 I had that for weeks but then during one hospital admission I was started on ranitidine for the reflux. Still get it but not as bad.

elpreggo27 · 25/10/2018 12:43

I have asked my doctor for some omeprazole hoping they approve the request as it's just awful :(

Kel55 · 25/10/2018 13:13

Elpreggo I was doing that but the ranitidine has helped calm it down. I take 2 a day one in morning and one in evening x

Kel55 · 25/10/2018 13:14

Thx Lucinda I keep saying to myself the kids will be fine. Won't be long and we will be back to normal. I'm nervous about getting through Christmas feeling so sick. But I'm just going to have to manage x

eallison88 · 25/10/2018 14:51

Ladies, if you're on ondansetron, please don't leave it late to get your prescription; there appears to be a shortage. We're currently having to ring lots of different pharmacies in an effort to track some down. It's not going particularly well.... I'm trying not to panic, just yet!

Priscilla83 · 25/10/2018 15:03

I had the same problem last week with ondansetron & the scandiskake (high calorie drink). My husband found some in a big boots store in the end - I was panicking!

eallison88 · 25/10/2018 15:22

Lost count of how many pharmacies we rang, but husband has just gone out to pick up the prescription from one that has enough for me.

SassehMonsta · 25/10/2018 15:24

Phew thanks for the heads up. I couldn't get any from my local Tesco but my boots had some in. If the worst happens, there is a pharmacy in my hospital that can dispense regular prescriptions - check if there's one in yours!

LucindaE · 25/10/2018 17:43

Welcome to Mum2beeof3. Congratulations. Star You have had great advice already. The main things are obviously arranging for childcare contingency plans, and pre-emptive meds, and you are already going for the pre-emtive meds. As you are a twice veteran you certanly don't need my 'have you got kesostix' and 'Do you find flat full sugar coke and ice lollies any good' spiel.
beanhunter That's awful that things go so bad with laxatives. About steroids, poor you, oh dear. I hope they agree for you to go back on them.
Priscilla83 Great advice from eallison Reastiepeace Olivecake and everyone. The hospital's handling of your difficulties with the test are frankly insensitive.
Kel It is only a temporary period of comparative neglect. Christmas can be tough. Next Christmas, you will all have a wonderful time with baby's first Christmas.Smile
eallison I hope the scrambled eggs stayed put.
Mamabear I am glad you got it.

For the ondansetron, Tesco and boots both told me to try independent pharmacies. Luckily Cohen’s and one of our local independent ones have had an ok supply in the end x
