I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Eallison I can smell the loo when I walk in the bathroom so just having a bath is making my queasiness worse. I’ve tried scented bleach...

Notquiteagandt · 21/10/2018 17:32

I bulk ordered a couple 100 paper sick bags from amazon and just primed an order every few days. Found that better as id just use them and bin them so didnt have to clean anything up.

But also handy to slip into my bag as well.

eallison88 · 21/10/2018 18:11

That's genius notquite!

LucindaE · 21/10/2018 18:52

8DaysAWeek I meant to say about your visitors -that really is to much in your current state.
eallison Glad OH did the injection expertly. Grin about winding. You are probobly a tidy puker, if you can always reach the loo. I was not.
Shock Interesting that you have had a success with peppers, and DeadDoorPost has dreadful memories of them. Ondansetron has definitely come down in price over the last few years. It was so prohibitively expensive, GP's were really reluctant to prescribe it back say in 2010.
DeadDoorPost Nice to hear from you. Not a tactful comment, from friend about weight, eh?
tinyradish Added you.
Notquiteagandt Congratulations on outing. You must give yourself time to build up your strength again. Being housbound for ages weakens muscles, besides hardly being able to eat for some weeks.
beanhunter Sorry, I've changed that.

Just been for a wee and there was a small amount of blood when I wiped. It was red but mixed in with some discharge. I'm about 10 weeks. I have put a pad in to check if I am losing any more.

How do I not lose my mind? Do I ring GP or pregnancy assessment unit in the morning?

silversplodge · 21/10/2018 20:37

Mamabear - I know it doesn't help but I'm also bleeding again at the moment. Only thing I've found to help the panic is going to sleep. Unless you are soaking through a pad in an hour, there's nothing anyone can do tonight, call EPU (if your hospital accepts direct referrals) or GP first thing tomorrow, but prepare yourself there is no guarantee scan will be same day. My first bleed I waited 4 days, and since then haven't even been scanned, they've just found the heart beat on the Doppler.
If it helps, I've had 3 big bleeds and several 'spots' and as of last Thursday baby still had a heart beat, so maybe try to take some comfort from that?
Hugs.

Mammabear13 · 21/10/2018 21:26

Thanks silversplodge that's really kind advice. I am trying but failing to sleep much at the moment but definitely feeling tired so hopefully will drop off soon. Sorry you are bleeding again - this pregnancy lark isn't much fun, huh. Hope you sleep well x

Notquiteagandt · 21/10/2018 21:56

@Mammabear13 I had a bleed at 4w and at 8w currently 23w with a healthy baby thats kicking me something silly tonight.

My bleed at 8w I bled every day for 10 days.

My bleed was due to being sick they think id put pressure on my uturus heaving.

Try not to worry. Easier said then done i know. Hope you get some reassurance tomorrow from the EPU Flowers

Olivecake · 22/10/2018 07:25

mamabear I had a few instances of blood just like yours, a little when I wiped but no ‘heavy’ bleeding, that happened all before 12 weeks and my midwife advised it was probably blood from around the opening of the vagina as lots of extra blood there (similar to how the nose and gums are all full of extra blood and tend to bleed in pregnancy) but hopefully EPU will be able to reassure you soon Flowers

Notquiteagandt I have/had the exact same problem with being completely exhausted after my other symptoms started to get better - as Lucinda says the HG takes such a huge toll on your body. Similar to you i didn’t start getting out of the house until around 22 weeks and it would absolutely knock me out with exhaustion when I did. It’s goinh much better now although I do
Still get tired! What I did was go for very small walks just around the block every day, very slowly at first, just to get some fresh air and build up strength bit by bit.

After 4 weeks Now I can go at my normal pace and much further, although sometimes it’s just about listening to your body like yesterday I went out in the morning just for breakfast at a cafe 5 mins walks away from my house and was so exhausted I spent the whole rest of the day on the sofa not moving! It’s frustrating but definitely just take it slow as I’ve found for me that tiredness really exacerbates my HG symptoms too

silversplodge · 22/10/2018 11:04

Mamabear hope you've managed to at least speak to someone and maybe get seen.
My GP finally referred me to gynae who I have seen. No scan again, but baby heartbeat fine. However the 'prolapse' the GP told me I have is in fact a huge growth on my cervix, so the Dr has taken my number and needs to call me back after discussing with consultant. She thinks I'm going to need a special camera test to look at it ?colposcopy.
I am of course now worried it is cancer as she couldn't tell me anymore than very large growth and would need to seen in clinic.
But I am very pleased the baby is fine :)

Olivecake · 22/10/2018 11:58

silversplodge oh that sounds so scary, I hope they won’t keep you waiting too long for the further investigation. Just before I got pregnant back in March I had to have a camera go up (hysterescopy) and it wasn’t pleasant but I’m glad I had it as they discovered the ‘mass’ was some left over placenta from my previous MMC and not something nastier. The main thing for now is the great news that the baby is doing well so try to focus on that and not worry too much for the worst Flowers

eallison88 · 22/10/2018 14:27

I'm struggling with eating today. My stomach doesn't feel very "secure" (for want of a better word). It's all very frustrating. Also, I know the risk of metochlopromide is the twitchy thing, and ive had a couple of occasions over the last few days when I've wondered if mild twitching. I'm seeing a specialist tomorrow, so I'll see what they say.

elpreggo27 · 22/10/2018 15:35

Due 20th march here...is anyone fed up with the constant sea sick feeling and taste of bile/always burping it up :(

eallison88 · 22/10/2018 15:40

I could scream. OH just went to chemist to put the liquid ondansetron for injection. They forgot to order it. So won't have any til tomorrow. Which means I don't have any for today. It's the only damned thing that means I can eat a little.

SassehMonsta · 22/10/2018 16:15

Had midwife appointment today and decided to ask dr for more odenastron - he phoned me back and said the hospital said not to. I pointed out it's the only thing stopping me from throwing up all my food. He claimed that I shouldn't be taking more drugs and medicines in pregnancy, that it can be bad for the baby. I retorted that dehydration is more of a risk! He prescribed me 5 more days of it (useful) and then I'll have to go back and argue with him again for more if I need it beyond the middle of next week. Moron.

Mammabear13 · 22/10/2018 16:25

Thanks for the kind words peeps. The bleeding has thankfully stopped for now. The pregnancy assessment unit aren't interested (they're not an early pregnancy unit so differ in the cases they deal with) and the GP says there's nothing to be done for now. I am feeling anxious as I haven't been feeling as nauseous/sick today and of course that worries me too! This is such an emotional rollercoaster!

silversplodge you are having such a tough time lately. Glad baby is going strong. Will be thinking of you as you wait to know more Flowers x

Eallison That is so frustrating, you poor thing Flowers

LucindaE · 22/10/2018 18:38

elpreggo27 Welcome. I added your date. I am sure everybody agrees about the awful taste/non stop nausea aspect. What meds are you on? Is this a first pregnancy? If not, then I don't need to give my 'have you got kesostix' and 'how do you find flat full sugar coke?' spiel.
MamaBear Sorry about bleeding. It is very nerve wracking. I hope you can get some reassurance soon . Great advice from silversplodge and Olivecake and Notquiteagandt.
eallison That is dismal. How stupid of the parmarcy!
Sassahmonsta As you were admitted not so long ago, the GP seems to be being obtuse. Can he not speak to the consultant in charge of your case at the hospital? Surely the consultant made recommendations about medication? There is a lot of good information about meds to be come by in the links in the introductory message to this thread with which you can arm yourself for a confrontation, but how annoying.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

sasseh that is shocking and unacceptable. By unfortunately, not that unusual. In my first pregnancy they made me drag myself to GP every week for a new prescription til about 30 weeks when they finally put it on repeat. I seem to have much more sensible GP this time who has been fabulous and gave me a prescription for 140 ondansetron, as well as supporting us to enable at home IM injections. As lucinda has said, use the links on the first post to arm yourself for the next conversation and be as assertive as you can. Can you take an advocate woth you who has more strength and can be more forceful with the insisting you have the appropriate meds. If yiu can, it might be worth them ringing the pregnancy sickness support helpline for a chat beforehand so that they are confident in what they can say. I know when I'm at my weakest I struggle to advocate for myself.

mamma glad the bleeding has stopped. Fingers crossed for no more.

Wishing everyone a peaceful night

SassehMonsta · 23/10/2018 06:14

Mistakenly forgot a dose of odansetron last night so took an earlier than usual dose this morning.... and promptly threw up 3 times, just from drinking the water to take the tablet.

I didn't see the tablet (around 1 minute after taking it) - should I re-dose? It says if you vomit within an hr to repeat the dose.

SassehMonsta · 23/10/2018 06:19

Nevermind. That's the 8mg film coated dose. Nothing about 4mg doses!

beanhunter · 23/10/2018 07:42

I really feel for you all struggling to get meds. The only advantage of so many admissions has been that they have restocked me each time and so I haven’t had to use the gp.

SeaEagleFeather · 23/10/2018 07:53

If you didn't see the tablet, don't take another sasseh. I know it's horrid but it's probably better to possibly miss one dose than to take two.

beanhunter · 23/10/2018 07:59

@sasseh - if it was a 4mg dose you could safely repeat. If it was 8 and you didn’t see the tablet I wouldn’t.

SassehMonsta · 23/10/2018 08:47

I decided not to as the vomit was 100% bile and I would have seen the tablet despite it being tiny!

I have managed to keep a soft hotdog down for breakfast as I couldnt face the thought of possibly vomiting up my usual weetabix and fruit. It's been down for 2 hours now so hopefully it was just a blip this morning! Has really confirmed that I'm still needing odansetron to get me through. I haven't been using the cyclzine most days, just when it's particularly rough.

SeaEagleFeather · 23/10/2018 13:21

sasseh, do use the cyclizine. It builds up in the blood over 3 or so days. So only taking it now and then means you don't get the proper benefit. It's considered absolutely safe, it's the first-line med and not strong but (if it works at all) very effective and seems to work well with ondansetron. It seems to help the body's over-strong reaction to the HCG hormone
