I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

@eallison88 I am the same throw on leggings and a jumper for the school run and then back home to wallow. Have also not been out much at all. Heading to my mums tomorrow for lunch - though she is around the corner so I'm not exactly venturing far and I don't need to change out of my comfy clothes or make any effort at all.

Must be hard missing the fun working with them but I am sure they will be excited for you when you do share the news (or your body does). I also miss running. Hoping I can pick that back up soon! Oh and I miss evenings on the sofa with my husband!

Ksjourney · 14/11/2018 09:23

@MauisLeftNipple it is awful isn't it. I feel like I'm on rations.

LucindaE · 14/11/2018 10:26

Oh dear, everyone. Sorry you all feel so bad. Lol about rations; the awful thing is, they tend to be healthy - whereas the Hyperemesis diet is so often all the food and drink you would normally turn your nose up at.

I'm eating super noodles every day! I've not eaten them since I was a student!! But someone mentioned them on here a week ago or so, and I wondered... now I'm eating at least 1 pack a day. Its not yet come back up, but I'm hopeful that if they do, they're super soft so won't hurt too much! Also eating poptarts, which I haven't had since I was a child! But the sweetness of them is working for me.

Eviejackxxx · 14/11/2018 11:53

So nice knowing I am not alone. 35 weeks on Friday and been suffering with hypermesis since week 4. Been signed off work for 4 months up until maternity leave which started last week. I just can't wait to feel normal again (ish) .... I can't wait to not feel sick every single day!! Not long now but every day seems to be dragging and I'm barely sleeping due to being so uncomfortable. Is anyone else due around the 21st December like me :) xx

shouldidoitspoilt · 14/11/2018 11:55

I'm struggling

My doctor said if I had more ketones next time he saw me he wanted me to go to hospital

What do they ask you to go to hospital with?
I'm anxious about it and i would rather stay at home

eallison88 · 14/11/2018 14:59

eviejack I remember eating a mountain of butter toast and gallons of milky tea immediately after I have birth. Both things that literally hours previously would have bounced and come straight back up. As soon as I have birth to my son the nausea and sickness was gone. I was amazed how it was literally like someone flicked a switch. And from what I gather that's the case for most women. I think lucinda was in the unfortunate minority that still had the nausea for a while afterwards. The days may be dragging, but you are slowly and surely ticking them off -well done!!

shouldi generally if your ketones are 3 or 4 the GP will want you in hospital. Healthy hydrated people the ketones of 0. If you are that dehydrated then a hospital visit is what you need. At that stage of dehydration there is simply no way you can fix that yourself, whilst puking. So they tend to hook you up to fluids and give you an injection of an antiemetic. They'll make you keep peeing in a pot until your ketones are 0 then let you go home. This works for most women. Unfortunately, ketones have proved a massively unreliable indicator of dehydration for me. I can have ketones of 4, eat a few slices of tinned peaches and my ketones will drop to 0. Or I can have ketones of 2, have 3 bags of fluid, eat a bit and my ketones stay at 2. For some reason ketones in your urine is the only way to convince a medixal professional that you are dehydrated if you are pregnant.

But, being sent to hospital is by no means a bad thing. They can review your meds, hook you up to fluids, and make you stop for a while and rest.

shouldidoitspoilt · 14/11/2018 16:30

@eallison88 I'm already at hospital sadly
I had 3+ what ever that means:(

Foreverblues · 14/11/2018 17:26

Hi guys, hope everyone is good. Just an update, work came to visit today and just said they want to support me back to work. I simply said I need to see how I go. I think I’ve lost weight, I’m now full of cold too which always makes me feel more sick! Eallison, sorry if I’m responsible for your super noodle daily fix 😂 you are so going to get me onto pop tarts 😂

eallison88 · 14/11/2018 18:00

shouldi 3+ is an indication that you're dehydrated and need fluids. Please tell me they have hooked you up to a drip?

The domperidone isn't working. I'm currently lying in bed not moving and working really hard on not puking. There's no way I can eat or drink and hope to keep anything down. I think the only available next step is steroids now. But, whatever is next, it needs to be soon, cos if nothing changes by this time tomorrow I will be in need of fluids. Eurgh

Eviejackxxx · 14/11/2018 18:00

@eallison88 I suffered the whole way through with my other 2 but never as bad as this. I must be mad 😜...

The thing that has made this so difficult for me is the lack of support. It really is so uncommon. I can remember thinking around 2 months ago 'if one more person asks me if I've tried ginger' 😂😂 I've hated how isolated it has made me and I really can't wait to get back to some sort of normality. ( kind of ) 😉 x

Reastiepeace · 14/11/2018 18:20

Eal how rubbish, I’m so sorry. I know you stopped met because of the twitch and I can’t remember what other drugs you’ve tried before, have you had combination of a few together?

Shouldi hope you feel better from the fluids and medicine.

Forever hopenthe cold gets better soon.

Evie jack I remember feeling just brilliant when I had dd as I had forgotten what it was like to not feel sick all the time and I had forgotten what it was like to feel like me, I had lost myself. In good news it made the newborn phase seem easy a so was just so grateful not to be pg!

Seeing gp tomorrow to check on how things are going (slowly!) assuming I can make it in.

eallison88 · 14/11/2018 18:27

reastie I'm also taking ondansetron and cyclizine. Initially with meto as well, then that was switched to prochlwhatsit when twitch started, then swapped to domperidone cos that did nothing. Domperidone is marginally better than prochlwhatsit, but I know if I move I am going to puke. It's taking a lot of concentration not to puke.

eallison88 · 14/11/2018 18:27

Oh And evie don't get me started on the "have you tried ginger" brigade!!

beanhunter · 14/11/2018 19:04

So I saw the pss recommended consultant today at 18/40. She expressed surprise that I had been stopped seeing her earlier.
However she has demanded that I stop my steroids though as apparently everyone is better by this gestation. She thinks a few vomits is better than being on steroids. I am not looking forward to this as already feeling sick since the last wean so sure I’m going to end up not great again. And that’ll mean work will be a struggle. But I have no choice as I’ve nearly run out and she won’t prescribe anymore.

eallison88 · 14/11/2018 19:17

Gosh I'm surprised by her "should be better by this point" attitude. I'm sorry to hear that she was unsupportive

beanhunter · 14/11/2018 20:10

It was strange because in some ways she was more supportive than anyone else - said I can email or phone. I’m just scared of going backwards. I’m just about managing at work at the moment.

LucindaE · 14/11/2018 20:40

Welcome to Evejackxxx. Sorry you are suffering badly at 35 weeks.
As you are something of a veteran, you certainly don't need my 'have you got kesotix' and 'do you find flat full sugar coke, ice lollies and the juice of tinned fruit any good' spiel. You are obviously very brave to go thorugh it a third time. I do feel for you over what sufferers sometimes call 'being gingered'. I've added you. A more or less Christmas baby. How sweet, anyway. Smile
silversplodge So sorry you're so ill that you have had to be admitted. The fluids will make you feel a lot better with any luck, and maybe they can work out a better set of meds.
eallison Sorry to hear that nothing is working. I hope that they will offer steroids if they can help. Did you say you had a 12 week scan coming up soon? You always give such great advice to others. Much sympathy, and about missing the youngsters in your class.
beanhunter Oh dear. How many times a day is 'a few times'? Poor you.
mauisleftnipple I hope today was a bit better.
SassehMonsta Glad Ranitidine helped.
KSjourney Oh dear, your Ancient Mariner quote is so true. 'Till all my veins did shrink' ?
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

@lucinda 1-2 but just had the worst session I’ve had in weeks and have to reduce dose tomorrow. Really want to keep working as it’s given me my sanity back.

Reastiepeace · 15/11/2018 07:32

Bean Shock at the consultant, and they were trained approved by pss? You see that really worries me as I live in constant fear that when I see a consultant they’ll tell me I can’t have my combination of drugs anymore or my gp will decide not to prescribe them anymore yet I’m only coping because of that.

Gp apt this morning to check in with how I’m doing. First time out in a couple of weeks so quite scared of going out to the big wide world.

eallison88 · 15/11/2018 07:46

reastie good luck with GP this morning.

Hubby and I have the decision to go to the pregnancy A&E at a large nearbyish hospital this morning. He's dropping our son with his childcare for the day, then he's gonna come home and help me shower/get dressed then we'll set off at 9 (having concluded that leaving earlier won't gets there earlier cos of where It is/traffic). It really sure what I'm hoping to achieve. I think ideally someone who knows will tell me I can go back to the meto. Cos I think the other other option now is steroids. We'll see.

Wishing everyone a calm day

Reastiepeace · 15/11/2018 08:18

Eal could you try the met and see if the twitching comes back? I hope you don’t have a wait too long there and get some help.

SassehMonsta · 15/11/2018 08:42

Hope all GP and hospital appointments go well today. I've had 3 days off work as overbooked holiday and just psyching myself up to go back inside now (sat in carpark!). I feel quite sick again, but have managed porridge and some chocolate soya milk in the hope that they stay down, but if they don't, it's soft. Brought some cupasoup with me too, even though I probably won't be able to stand the smell later. Luckily, only work until 2pm, but it feels like it's going to be a he'll of a long day after 2 days mostly spent relaxing and snoozing. (Though, I did go shopping one morning, alone!)

SassehMonsta · 15/11/2018 08:42

I have enough range of medications in my bag right now that I could start a pharmacy.

Priscilla83 · 15/11/2018 08:43

I've an appointment with consultant coming up and so was thinking about the birth. Is HG a medical reason for an elective? What are people's experiences of HG during labour? Sorry for a bit of a random q first thing in the morning, guess I'm feeling a bit nervous of the appointment with obstetrician.

On a brighter note, I've started reflexology, has anyone found it helps with HG? I've booked to start Hyponobirthing classes in December - I'm looking forward to those...trying to bring some positivity into the situation.
