Breastfeeding and bottle feeding/expressing

FTM here- due in January. I really want to try my best to breast feed with DC1 when they arrive but also want to try expressing for the odd occasion that I would like my partner to do the feeding, such as when I am going to the theatre which I have have planned for nearly a year (Harry Potter!) when DC1 will be around 4-5 weeks old.
So my question is, when is a good time to try/begin expressing and try to give baby a bottle whilst primarily breast feeding?!

I waited till 6 weeks and my now 9 month old won't take a bottle! Most people I know have started about 2 or 3 weeks and their babies have been fine with both!

Went to a breastfeeding workshop today - midwife suggested waiting until 4-6 weeks before expressing significant amounts (hand expressing to relieve pressure or harvest colostrum is different). I think it's down to your milk maturing and getting into a rhythm.

I was advised to wait until 5-6 weeks and then couldn’t get mine to take a bottle.

He eventually did, but never win a normal teat and not until he was 7 months.

Win? With!

Do it early, I did it at 2 weeks which is completely against the guidelines, but if you follow the guidelines they often refuse the bottle!

If you express at around 2-3weeks and get your partner to do the feed you should be reassured by the time you go to the theatre that your baby will take the bottle. I breastfed all 3 of my children. They only ever had a bottle of expressed milk from someone other than myself. They took this from a week or 2 old. I went back to university when my first was one week old so I had to express relatively early on but I didn’t do it very often. If they get it quite early they should take from both or that’s what I found.

Thanks for your replies. I'm certainly not planning on being away from baby at all really but I'm not missing this theatre trip!!
Would it be awful if they were given formula once in a blue moon/on this occasion if I couldn't express a lot? Sorry I'm a complete novice!
