12 weeks, no midwife appointment or scan yet?!

Hello all,
Tomorrow I'll be 12 weeks pregnant, and still haven't managed to get a booking appointment from the midwife. She's tried to call me once (after hassling the doctors several times), but I missed the call on Tuesday. I called straight back at the next opportunity, she didn't pick up, so I left a message, and then she never called back!

I called the doctors again Friday to explain I still hadn't managed to get an appointment booked, and they just told me the same old 'she's in again on Tuesday I'm sure she'll call then'. But what if I miss the call again?! That's it, missed my chance, and I wait yet another week? I asked them if I could at least book my scan with the hospital, if I still hadn't had a midwife appointment early next week, and they said not really the midwife has to do it.

I'm not necessarily concerned about the baby as I actually had a scan at 7 weeks (due to a bleed) and then booked for a private scan last weekend as I was anxious back then (due to having no correspondence with a health professional!!) and so I've seen the heartbeat and lots of movement, but I still need to have the Nuchal Translucency scan by 14 weeks don't I?? I've not had any bloods or urine samples done either.

Is it likely I'll be able to get a midwife appointment, and the scan done, in the next two weeks? To top it off I'm going away for a long weekend next weekend so even less time to squeeze it in!!

Just not sure how else I can get things moving along, there just seems to be a very blasé approach going on at the moment and it's just starting to make me twitchy!

Sorry for the long post, not sure what advice anyone can give on this ultimately! Hmm

Oh dear that's not good, I have no opinions on this I'm afraid as all my health appointments so far have been really good. 🤞 I don't jinx myself now 😂
They are right about the scan, I saw the midwife about 8 weeks pregnant And then told her id prefer my scan on the Friday as on the Saturday I was away for a week so wanted to make sure everything was okay and I could relax on holiday, when I received my scan date it was the day I wanted😊 just keep nagging them on the phone hun and then maybe they'll listen 😊 although that's not how it should be 🤔 xx

So you have the community midwife office number? (For the team not the individual midwife). I'd be ringing them and asking for an appointment ASAP. Smile

I agree with pp. Call the community midwife office number (or the maternity unit at your local hospital and see if they can give you the right number if you don’t have it). You are right that if you want the NT screening it’s got to be done soon. If the NHS don’t fit you in on time you could look at having it done privately.
I had the Harmony test done through the FMC in London and will have my nuchal scan there too. I was too late to be fitted in with the NHS.

I had this too, had to walk into the antenatal centre and request an appointment straight away, they scanned me and booked me for my bloods but I had missed the nuchal test but everything was okay in the end, good luck xx

I only found out in the last week I was expecting and I am already 15+4 I've not had a booking in appointment and no mention of the scan despite numerous calls to the midwife department, doctors have said they don't get involved and all has to be done through the midwife. Both the midwifes in my department live in my village, surely it wouldn't be too much to ask for them to nip in as a last visit but I just keep being told, hopefully someone will fit me in by the end of the week, must be a busy time of year for babies haha

Phone the hospital you want to book with and ask to speak to the supervisor of midwives hopefully they should be able to point you in the right direction.

My GP has a sign on the wall saying they like booking in appointment done at 8 weeks or before and if you can't get an appointment with your specific midwife there is the community midwives number where you can call the office to get an appointment with any midwife.
I would see if you can find that number. I'm pretty sure you have to be booked in before you can have most tests done because it corresponds to your NHS number and your address but not 100% sure on that.

Thanks for your replies lovely people!

I Googled community midwife and found the number for the midwife office at the hospital, so think I'll give them a call tomorrow. Wasn't sure if it would mess up the 'system' if I go by my own means and then the doctors surgery midwife calls me, I guess everything goes on your medical record ultimately though doesn't it!

I didn't really realise there was a limit on the NT screening until last week, can't believe some of you ended up missing it, not good if it's totally the fault of the midwife not getting an appointment in on time! Can't really afford to keep paying for private scans.. I didn't really want to have to get the one I had at 11 weeks but I was so stressed the week before, I thought this is no good I just need peace of mind!!

Anyway thanks again all, fingers crossed I'll get something sorted this week, good luck to those of you with the rest of your pregnancies :)
