Until what age do babies stay in a cot?

When do most babies move out of a cot into a bed? I'm trying to decide what to buy and have no idea.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

varies - from my mates, I'd say between 20mths and 2 1/2 is about average

My ds moved into a bed when he was 2 1/2. I put the bed against the wall and at the other side, put a folding down bed guard (Tomy one from Mothercare). Worked like a charm and had no falling out of bed accidents.

don't know about most but my ds just went into his bed a couple of weeks ago at 2 and 4 months - was quite happy in his stokke cot til then but starting to get a bit big for it. I'd say this is on the late side but as a result have had no problems whatsoever and it went really smoothly. Coincided with potty training so he has enjoyed the whole I'm a big boy now thing with them both. I know people who have done it at 18 months to make way for a new baby.

ds2 was in his cot til he was.....4!!!! (his choice)

my dd started climbing out of hers at 1.5 years but i think about 2ish

ChasingSquirrels · 13/06/2007 23:09

ds1 was 2y3m, and only got it was doing my back in lifting him in and out. he was happy in it, and was equally happy in a bed.

i would say - as soon as they can climb out or they express a desire to be in a bed.

bad mother alert: dd (just 3) is still in her cot. (it's dh's fault: he doesn't want to go to IKEA)

MrsJohnCusack · 13/06/2007 23:14

my DD (2 1/2) is still in her cotbed sized cot
she seems quite happy so not going to bother moving her out yet. can see her being in for ages more TBH

Depends if you have a climber! My newphew climbed out of his cot and broke his arm when he was about 12 mths. And my DS could also climb out by 18 mths. He slept in a regular bed from then.

BabyMadandBIGbump · 14/06/2007 09:58

We brought a cotbed, used the cot till both DS's were 14 mths and the bed from 14 mths to 3 yrs, the cotbed was the best thing we ever brought, and lasted 2 DC!

Mine never had cots - they went straight from a moses basket to a futon on the floor. DD stayed on her futon til we built her a cabin bed when she was 7 - ds is still on his at 6 because we haven't got round to building his cabin bed (dispite daily reminders!)
