Possible UTI and ready to pop any day now...

Sorry if TMI but I've got a real burning feeling in my fanjo, and I am wondering if it could be a UTI. I've never had one before (or cystitis - is that the same thing?).

I'm 39+1 so due to pop any day now and vaguely remember reading something about it being a Bad Thing to give birth when you have an infection.

Can anyone tell me weather this burning feeling sounds like a UTI or if it is a normal feeling at this late in the pregnancy game? And is it worth making an emergency appointment at the Dr's (if I don't say it's an emergency I won't get an appointment for at least a week!)

This could be a UTI or thrush or could be your body getting ready for the birth. Hard to tell really. You could try getting down on your hands and knees for maybe half an hour to see if this takes any pressure off from down below and makes you feel more comfortable. Doing this can help kickstart labour too if the baby feels so inclined! Also try taking a warm bath to see if this brings any relief, just don't have it too hot and don't use any scented products that could irritate. I think the main issues with UTI's in pregnancy are that if they are left untreated they can develop into kidney infections which can result in preterm labour - since you are full term already then this doesn't apply! If I were you I would ring the doctors anyway for peace of mind and insist on seeing or speaking to somebody - it is your right, you are pregnant, due to give birth at any time and have a legitimate concern. You could also ring your midwife who should be happy to advise you on what is going on. Good luck with everything!!

Thanks for the reply boowidger. Got an appointment with the Dr this morning (midwife is very elusive so haven't a hope in hell of talking to her!)
