Very damp and anxious

Hi all I'm 20 weeks pregnant and on baby number 3 with a rather large gap between... 18 years.... I had my scan this week and all is perfect but today I've found I'm very damp in my underwear. I have quite a lot of clear discharge (more than normal) though there's no offensive smell to it I can't help but worry. I can't remember this with my others so wanted to know if this is normal. I've spent most of the pregnancy anxious I'm going to miscarry and don't want to contact m/w with another 'sign of loss' if other expecting mums go through this. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi @Jemchal I had something similar at 28weeks, to the point actually thought I'd wet myself! Though the discharge was completely clear and no smell at all so couldn't have been wee. I called the midwife (first pregnancy so was unsure of what's normal) she advised to wear a pad and monitor the discharge for a couple of hours. After more discharge than normal we did have to go in to see the midwife and a doctor. They carried out a speculum (which was quite uncomfortable) and tested for thrush.
Everything was fine & apparently excess discharge is completely normal but I'm happy went in just for peace of mind. May be worth calling your midwife for advice. Good luck x

I’m more or less permanently damp. It’s not glamorous!

From what I can gather, it is normal but you can get amnio sense pads from boots which tell you if it’s your waters leaking (which it probably isn’t)

Any concerns and you should call your midwife, however an increase in discharge is really really common.

I'm 28 weeks and these last few weeks have been getting more and more - I think it is common and does increase as times goes on for some women

Ok, so it's probably totally fine because this is a normal symptom at this stage but please still go get checked out. This was the main symptom I had before my baby arrived at 29 weeks for unknown reasons. I'd googled this symptom and everything said it was normal but I just felt wrong. I wish I'd gone in. Far better safe than sorry.

Go and see your midwife asap. My waters broke at 27 weeks i woke up very wet and was soaking through pads a few days later. Xx

I had this concern and my midwife told me that amniotic fluid has a distinct odour of its own- bit tmi but it smells like semen

I'm 19 weeks and I had something very similar last week. I've always had discharge, but this was more and while I wasn't soaking, I did feel damp.
Loads of people reassured me but I still called the midwife. I got a speculum done with a test for waters done and everything appeared normal. I feel much more reassured after seeing her, now just on to 20 week scan next week!x
