Scan scare- dates wrong or possible miscarriage?

Hi,

I just had an early scan at what I thought was 7+6 today with lmp being 16 August. We then dtd 25/26/29 August and I think I ovulated around the 27/28.

Scan showed my dates to be around 6 weeks. There was a sac and they could see something inside measuring 4.5mm but no heartbeat. They said they wouldn't expect to see a hb yet and something about protocol would not be anything below 7mm to see one.

The lady said it's completely 50/50 if it will progress or if I will miscarry and I have another scan booked next wed to see if any progression. Sonographer however said the same but told me to err on the side of miscarrying if I should be more like 8 weeks.

What I don't understand is going by my dates above I can't possibly be 8 weeks and 6 weeks sounds about right but I said nearly 8 as I was going from date of lmp that's what I would be and I thought that's how they counted it. Has anyone had this and what was the outcome? X

Should add that the early scan was due to a lot of gloopy (cm) that has a bit of colour in it briefly for a few wipes that was orange/peach not obvious blood but darker. That was last Friday nothing since. Sickness since 5 weeks and other symptoms.

Try not to worry to much my LMP was 13 August but I'm currently only 7+1 due to late ovulation and I know when we had sex as only did it once ! I had an early scan due to some bleeding but first scan showed a tiny sak and they questioned my dates and I was worried went back a week later and we had a healthy baby with a heartbeat, they have said until my 12 week scan they won't be to sure of my dates at all

My lmp was 17/08 and I’m 7+5 so your dates add up as in you’re 8 weeks tomorrow. I got my bfp on the 10/09, when did you get yours? This could be an indication as to whether your dates add up.

In my previous pregnancy I went for a scan at what I thought was 8+4 to be told baby was measuring 6+6, 8mm, with a heartbeat. I knew from my dates when I’d ovulated and so knew really that the pregnancy wasn’t viable, and miscarried at 11+3 although it didn’t look like the pregnancy had progressed much past the initial scan. I wasn’t offered a follow up scan as the sonographer was adamant I’d got my dates wrong, even though I was charting.

@HalfBloodPrincess I got my bfp on 6th September when I thought I was about 10dpo.

That does make it sound like your dates are the correct ones.
