Low birth weight?

I am being induced on Friday at 37+1 as my baby is measuring below the 10th centile. He was estimated to be 4lbs at 33 weeks and 4lbs 8oz at 35 weeks.

I don't feel like my consultant has told me much about what this means for my baby. Blood flow and fluid are normal and everything else otherwise looks good. Will he struggle to feed? Will he need special care? Or is he just small?

Please share your experiences

My baby measured fine until about 35ish weeks, and then she dropped a little and my fundal height dropped to below 10th, immediate scan showed she'd not grown a whole lot around her abdomin and they insisted a csec for two weeks later especially seeing as she was breech.
I don't remember what they thought her weight would have been, but they suspected growth restriction.
I point blank refused on gut instinct, they refused to scan again for another 2 weeks at the least. Turned out she grew a little but not a huge amount.
Gave birth spontaneously at 39weeks, to a 6lb 2oz (much heavier than they guessed I know for sure) healthy girl who has stuck to her own little 10th centile growing curve.
Had no problems feeding and is smarter than me already(24 months)
Some people just have small babies. Small babies don't necessarily mean any problems, it's the getting them out way too early that does but 37is classed as term so should be fine.
I've read on here a lot of times about peoe who had been told they were having a 4lb or 12lb baby and they had tuned out a normal weight.
The measurements are a little bit of guess work tbh... You don't know until they are out.
Good luck with whatever happens though!

I would call and ask to speak to someone about what it may mean, just for your own reassurance.

I had diabetes (barely) with my third, and they did multiple growth scans after my midwife noticed my bump was big at 27 weeks. They said baby would be 90th+ and he was born last week weighing just over 7lbs Hmm Hope everything goes well for you.

My wee one measured totally normal throughout pregnancy (50-60th percentile) - she was born at 37 weeks spontaneously weighing in at 0.2 percentile. Huge shock. Measuring is very innacurate. She was totally fine and fed very hungrily if slow first few days - at 6 months she is 60th percentile.
