Seeing midwife tomorrow (with my lovely mum [grin) will be 10+5, have read that they can hear heartbeat from 10 weeks withg a doppler. Has anyone hear heard heartbeat at 10 weeks or so?

Would love for my mum to hear as would be a new expereience for her. I also want to hear as want to know little bean is ok.

my mw wouldnt even attempt to listen to heartbeat before 16 weeks with ds+dd2,and dd3,although i know when i was expecting ds1 it was heard at 12 weeks, but im pretty sure 14-16 weeks is the norm?

Ok as a midwife I would always try from ten weeks if someone wanted me to, but would make it clear that if I don't hear it it does not mean that anything bad has happened. I have heard heartbeats at ten weeks fairly often, (including on a friends first bump, strangely enough I could not hear her second one at 13 weeks without a lot of trying, thankfully all was well). Of course this is only really possible if the woman is not overweight. I heard my own first baby at ten weeks and my second one at nine weeks which was amazing as I just listened in on the off chance in the middle of a quiet night shift with nothing better to do. I do however not suggest listening in early if someone is extremely anxious as they might freak out if they didn't hear it! Let us know what happens.

with my first the mw had alisten at the booking in visit at 8 week sand we heard it. However, i was extremely thin. When i was pg with ds2 they listend at the first antenatal session so about 9 weeks ish

meant to say that as when i fell PG with DS2 i was back to size 6/8 so again very slim

Mine didn't even attempt to listen until 16 weeks appt and even then she said not to worry if she couldn't find it. I hope she manages to hear it for you but if she doesn't don't be too disappointed.
Hope all goes well!

Saw midwife.. she was pretty terrible to be honest. LOng story.. double booking, no notes, stand in for 4 weeks, no knowledge of my hosp choice, no knowledge of options available there etc etc. Anyway, she asked if I would like to see if she could find heartbeat. I said yes (of course ). Then she looked in her bag and realised she hadnt got the dopler with her and retracked saying she doesnt try to find it at this point in preg . tbh I am not too worried, loking forward to when I get nuchal fold scan and not goingt o get too het up.

THanks for all your posts
