Hi guys, I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant, this is my first pregnancy, and I've been suffering from bad morning sickness this past week, it hit me like a ton of bricks! I feel nauseous all day and it's really taking it toll! luckily so far Im only being sick in the mornings but certain smells and food is making me very queasy! Im interested in everyone's experience with morning sickness and any advice on the best food to eat, coping with it and when did the nauseous feeling go away?
Xx

I feel your pain, for me it lasted around 4 months, no one can prepare you for it. Sometimes it would help if I had sparkling apple juice or elderflower first thing ( if you can get other half to bring it to you before your feet hit the floor even better ) others said ginger biscuits or crackers worked. It’s important to not get sick hungry as I called it... as it escalated the sickness and I could stop heaving if I went too long without food.

For me not being sick was Russian roulette and I never knew if food would stay down ... carry food bags to throw up in everywhere with you ... as you won’t have log to react sometimes .

If it’s really bad and you can’t keep enough food down then the doctor maybe able to prescribe medicine ( my cousin had it through her entire pregnancy and passed out with it a few times so needed medication ) she said to me it never took the feeling of being sick away but stopped her being as sick .. as I could keep enough down I didn’t see the point I. Taking anything and just kept eating little and often and throwing up and eating again 🙄

It will likely get better is the good news but one thing on reflection is I could have been a bit kinder to myself. I worked the same hours ( would just throw up in my food bags driving to work ... which is really hard to do ) and get through my day throwing up. I. Retrospect I should have asked to do half an hour lunch and come in a bit later ... modify my work to help me. So don’t be afraid do ask for help. You may not be ill and this is perfectly natural but it’s also worse than any stomach flu I have had and the length of time it lasts can be very draining.

When you go into labour

I vommed for the last time about an hour after I gave birth

DramaAlpaca · 09/10/2018 21:51

Not what you want to hear, but about 20 weeks with all three of mine.

I had it really badly for about 5 months then slightly less badly for the rest of the pregnancy. My baby was 7lb 14 but I left hospital in a pencil skirt.

Until birth for me

Redken24 · 09/10/2018 21:54

Hmm i think 6 months but random sick days. I could only stomach pickled onion space raiders so ate them most days.
Could not eat garlic and cheese (diet staples)
Definitely what pp said be kind to yourself - if you can only manage certain food don't feel bad for eating (a lot of) it especially in the first trimester.

12 weeks pretty much on the nose

MumNeedsANap · 09/10/2018 21:57

I had terrible 24hr sickness in my first pregnancy and it lasted till about 13 weeks, which I know seems like an eternity away, I did get it more manageable by not getting too hungry or too full, I worked out I had to eat like half a cracker every half hour or something like that, I hope you find something that works for you, and be kind to yourself

Thatstheendofmytether · 09/10/2018 21:59

For me,not until after they were born, was throwing my guts up for 8 months each time and still going in labour. Hope it's not the same for you!

mollyblack · 09/10/2018 22:01

First pregancy i was sick the whole way through. Second time I had no sickness at all!

thenightsky · 09/10/2018 22:06

Both times it stopped at 13 weeks. Like someone had flicked a switch. One day it was there, next day gone. I then had 3 months of feeling brilliant. After that it was heartburn till I gave birth. I used to carry a big bottle of Gaviscon around and swig from it.

MissDai5y · 09/10/2018 22:37

Mine didn't. Right up until the day my waters broke I was being sick maybe 4/7 days, sometimes more.

I didn't really have the nausea after 14 weeks but would spontaneously start heaving and have to run to the bathroom as it was quite violent. Always felt fine after too, very weird.
