I suffered with spd in 2nd trimester which eased off a few weeks ago and just the past couple of days I’ve got sharp pain come back on my right side again but this time the pain is inside my bum right in the Centre of my right cheek and down my thigh, it’s painful mainly at night when I’m trying to sleep and when I get up in the morning or if I sit too long ;( does anyone have any advice to ear the discomfort and also if it will get better once baby is born? I’m 35 weeks 3 days

Sounds like Piriformis Syndrome - have a google. Physio should help x

Yes piriformis. Find a small hard ball, about the size of a tennis ball but harder. You can buy massage balls on amazon. Then sit on it with the pressure going into he middle of your right bum cheek. Hold that pose for a few mins if you can. Also try not to sit down for longer than 20 mins without getting up and walking around a little. You could also see an Osteopath, remedial massage therapist or physio.

Gosh I'm into my 3rd pregnancy and reading this has made me realise that this is what I get - I've had countless physios over the years and no one has ever mentioned Piriformis Syndrome.

I have been given plenty of exercises to manage the pain in the area and help build strength. A good one is to clench your glutes when you walk up the stairs. Also to clench them and keep legs together when you turn over in bed. Have a look on YouTube for sciatica exercises.
