Hi I’m on deogestrol pill (mini pill) and forgot to take it Wednesday and Thursday as had been feeling ill however Thursday night me and my partner had Unprotected sex! I took my pill again on Friday morning! I donot get periods on this pill either. So I’m just wandering what to do now. I mean what is the likelihood of pregnancy or do you think I will be okay?

Missing 2 pills puts you in danger of getting pregnant. I would go for the morning after pill

Bettyb09 · 06/10/2018 16:12

Even though I don’t have periods?

Not having a period is irrelevant. You ovulate before a period: if your body ovulates after a missed couple of pills and you conceive, you will be pregnant without having had a period, just like people can conceive when they come off birth control without having had a period first.

Ok thankyou sorry for questions I just wasn’t sure what to do

I think the mini pill has a lot less leeway for missing one so I'd be inclined to get the MAP ASAP if a pregnancy would be unwelcome.

Bettyb09 · 06/10/2018 16:27

Thankyou. Is there a time limit to getting MAP

I think you can take it up to five days after unprotected sex, but the earlier the better.

I took the MAP after less than 24 hours.....I'm currently sat here 18 weeks pregnant! It depends on your cycle and whether you have ovulated or not as to whether the MAP is effective. I would go to GP and discuss options - a copper coil may be a better option

NewNameDueToMyIdiocy · 06/10/2018 16:47

The MAP doesn't always work (I got pregnant despite taking it ASAP), but it would be better to take it than not, if you don't want to get pregnant. Also maybe worth getting some condoms in as back up in case you forget your pill again!

Thanks guys. I’m always usually pretty good with it but coz I was feeling ill I completely forgot.

@bettyb09 periods on the pill aren’t real periods anyway, so you not having them makes no real difference to anything.

I would suggest the MAP as above and then take a pregnancy test in 2 weeks. This should be enough time for fertilisation and implantation to occur if it is going to, so should give you an accurate result on a home pregnancy test. I would use a First Response Early Reult test x

MAP can be effective up to 72 hours afterwards but the sooner you take it, the more likely it is to work.

The alternative is a copper coil which can be put in up to five days afterwards - your local family planning (sexual health) clinic can help with this if needed.

Darkstar4855 · 06/10/2018 23:26

Sorry, just checked and the new MAP (Ella one) can be taken up to five days, it’s the older one (levonelle) that was three days.
