Hi, I'm 38 and have 3 dc 16, 14 and 12. We want another Smile I was on depot inj till early this year then swapped to Yasmin pill. I stopped in August and had a proper period on 28th but nothing since!
My question is, how long has it taken other ladies to become pregnant at around my age after stopping contraception, did your cycles get longer because I'm getting bfn and no af?!?!
Thanks in advance xxxx

Depo can delay return to fertility for up to a year (sometimes longer)

iris81 · 04/10/2018 21:31

Thanks @dementedpixie I think depo is out of my system but not the Yasmin??

It can definitely take 1-2 years for regular ovulation to return after being on depo injection. Pill effects tend to wear off after a couple of months.

How long is a piece of string??

iris81 · 04/10/2018 21:37

@Mummydoctor I was on it for a couple of years, had a year off then a year back on so that might be likely then. I really thought I'd ov'd this month but no af.

Is there a simple test to see if you're ovulating?

2.5 long years. Would never go back on it now.

Mummydoctor · 04/10/2018 21:44

Ovulation tests that GPs do wouldn’t be particularly helpful as is only a snapshot. When your periods return will probably give you a clearer indication of when you’re starting to ovulate again. I think you’ll have to give it time and see what happens.

Mummydoctor · 04/10/2018 21:45

I never advise women have depo if they’re considering another pregnancy in the next couple of years for this very reason.

iris81 · 04/10/2018 21:48

Thank you @Mummydoctor I appreciate the advice. I'm just frustrated and impatient at the moment.

@BalancingStick at the time I loved it as no periods but didn't realise/contemplate that would arise. I'm sorry I had it now but I suppose I didn't have a crystal ball xx

It took me 9 months to conceive my eldest after coming off Yasmin. I had been on the pill for a very long time before hand though!

I took the mini pill between my eldest and youngest and then waited about 6 months between finishing it and TTC. We caught on the first month of trying with him.

BalancingStick · 04/10/2018 21:57

Yeah me too - thought it was amazing at the time. Luckily I now have 2 dcs but it was a long journey. Am now embracing my cycle!

Mummydoctor · 04/10/2018 21:58

You’re welcome @iris81. It’s tough having to wait it out, but it will wear off. A lot of women are ovulating within 12 months of stopping it so there’s a little more time yet.

PotteringAlong · 04/10/2018 22:01

I got pregnant 7 weeks after coming off depo the first time, 17 months the second time (but only 11 months after I’d stopped breastfeeding / periods returned) and then 6 months after I’d come off it the third time.

@iris81 got it thankyou x
