Ringing in sick

I’m 24 weeks and absolutely full of a cold and sore throat. I feel grim.
I rang in sick today and feel so guilty!
I haven’t had any sick days all year not even when my other 3 kids have been sick.
I know tomorrow is going to be the peak of my cold and I’m not sure I can face going in.
How many sick days did you take in your pregnancy?
I know if I wasn’t pregnant I’d just battle through and go in so I feel really bad!

If you are sick, you are sick. With a cold, Pregnancy is a red herring.

If you have pregnancy related illness, this must be recorded separately and cannot be used in any action against you.

This.

I took 3 weeks off with DC1 (hyperemesis, hospital admissions etc). I was unlucky.

3 days off here and there with DC2 (2 mornings off with sickness and 2 days off with a chest infection). I was lucky.

Never had any problems with my employer. I think they were just relieved I survived my first pregnancy.

I hope you feel better soon.

I've had one when I had chronic insomnia in the heatwave, one when I hadn't slept about 3 weeks ago, and today with a cold. They're keen for me not to infect others so I left yesterday lunchtime and may go back Monday. TBH I only have 2 weeks left now anyway but I do feel bad!

I've had a few sick spells, and likewise feel guilty and hate making that call. Before pregnancy I'd had one sick day so it's not something I'm used to.

I've had a couple of days due to back pain, cold and nausea/fatigue in first tri. Pregnancy has taken it's toll on my once fit body!

The thing is normally you would dose yourself up on lemsip or other cold medicine to battle on. When you are pregnant you can’t take those and your immune system is a bit lower so you feel much worse.
Definitely stay off sick- you’ll feel a lot better by Monday.

I've been off three weeks in the last four. I told the doctor that work wouldn't like it. He said "I don't give a damn about work. You won't be thanked if something happens to you or the baby."

Pebblespony · 04/10/2018 19:39

I'm only 7 weeks too. I'd say I'll be off a lot this pregnancy.

Thanks everyone.
Exactly right that normally I’d take medication but I can’t even take paracetamol as I have some ridiculous allergy that goes on whilst I’m pregnant so paracetamol if definitely out of the question.

I’m feeling massively run down and I’ve come out in a huge cold sore so I’m hibernating until Monday.
