How long was your second labour?

DD1 took 9hrs to arrive after being induced, and midwife keeps telling me that DD2 should be quicker.

So how long was your second labour compared to your first?

First was induced with synto so was very much being artificially controlled. 3 hours from contractions properly getting going to baby.

Second was 75 minutes, breech

1st- 5 hours
2nd- 1hr 10
3rd- 2hrs

2nd &3rd pushing where like lightning tho, barely made it into a bed

Thanks for this - currently bouncing on birthing ball at 40+1 unsure if I can feel the start of some contractions or not. First birth was three days of 'latent' phase but actually agonising contractions up to three mins apart, followed by 22 hours active and 2.5 hours pushing So I'm desperately hoping for something a little quicker this time which it sounds like I might get!

First 40 hours then EMCS
Second 12 hours and yanked out with forceps.

DC1 - 27 hrs from first contraction (20 hrs from 5cm dilated)
DC2 & DC3 - 3.5 hrs from first contraction

First was 31 hours.

Second was 38 hours.

first labour - 10 hours
second labour - 2.5 hours

i second what somebody said about their second labour too - i feel so much better after this one (it was 3 weeks ago) i feel ive recovered so much better, the first one i felt like i’d been hit by a bus!

Loving this thread - due baby #2 in 3 weeks and hoping things will be quicker (and easier?!) second time around. Would like to be able to make it into hospital though!

1st - 12 hours (On my back, episiotomy, horrific)
2nd - 1.5 hours (Blissful, not terribly painful water birth)

First - 24 hours
Second - 6 hours

Sorry to sound stupid but when people say how long it took, from what point are they meaning? First contraction?

With my first child my contractions started at 9 am Friday and I had him at 9:15am on Saturday. I'm pregnant again so I too am wondering Wether this would be quicker

1st - was induced, had 3 days of contractions. Had every drug going but managed to avoid a section.
2nd - just an hour or so of proper contractions. Was 1cm when i arrived in the labour room. 30 mins later he popped out, no time for any pain relief!
It was a much more positive experience second time and a much quicker recovery.

1st was 17 hours ended with forceps 2nd was only 1 hour.

First - 3hrs 30m (gas & air)
Second - 27mins (no time for any pain relief)

Both induced.

They told me the next would be quicker. I was sterilised as soon as I could book myself in.

First 3 hours, second 45 minutes. DS2 would have been quicker but he was back to back with his arm up by his head and his chord wrapped twice around his neck. Third as even quicker. Precipitous labours are not pleasant.

@Jake mine was from first contraction.

First was 7 hours, was induced and had the drip, second was 35 minutes from first contraction 😬😬

4 hours.
My first labour was 2 days!

First one was 12 hours. 1 and a half active. Second was 20minutes all in..nearly gave birth in my living room. Literally woke up 9cm and ready to push 😂

First 45 minutes second 15 minutes third I'm hoping just walks out

1st labour - 6.5 hours.

2nd labour - 36 mins...
