6 weeks no fetal pole but yolk sac

Hi all,
I'm new to all of this! Currently a mum of 2.Smile

Recently found out I'm expecting again, estimated myself at 6w 3d however during a private reassurance scan today due to previous miscarriages they estimated me between 5-6.

The scan shown a healthy gestational and yolk sac, no fetal pole. I expected to see the baby at this stage and a hb so I'm losing my mind a bit.

Sonographer seems to think I was a little forward on my dates and I am further behind at this stage. I keep thinking the worst and pregnancy might not be progressing, he said the yolk sac is a very good sign and arranged a rescan in two weeks!

Has anyone else been through this and gone for a further scan to see a developing baby?

Praying this pregnancy is viable after losing my twins last year!

I'm currently in same position I thought I was further on but when I went last Tuesday the sonographer said am 4-5 weeks and was only a small sack there could hardly see it! I posted on this and loads of people have been in same position and have been fine I don't think much can be expected to see at that stage however I went very early with my last pregnancy and seen more so I do feel weird but loads of people have said it's completely normal!! hope everything goes well for you xxx

It's a waiting game isn't it!Sad
I've heard so many positive outcomes though which is making me feel better, I guess we're both in the same boat and can wait it out together! Early scans are always so unsettling at this stage, but like you say everything is so small and difficult to see at this point.

I have a scan next Wednesday so I will update you on the outcome!
Have they booked you a rescan?

Got everything crossed for our little bubs.
Xxxx

I know I wish I hadn't found out so early this is my 3rd pregnancy and found out so early with other 2 feels like forever and makes me so anxious!! Aww great hope it all goes well, yes I'm booked in for the 16th one week 6 days not that am counting lol... xx

You generally don't see a feral pole or heart beat until about 6 weeks. You're dated May be when your last period was but not when you ovulated/conceives so that could be why they are out a bit.
Have you booked into your local EPAU? Usually they would scan you then get you back 7-10 days later for another scan to check progress as they can't use results form a private scan.

Fingers crossed for you OP!

*fetal pole

Yeah I have a scan next Wednesday at the epu, had major surgery this year which resulted in losing an ovary & Fallopian tube so they're keeping a close eye!

I think chances are I'm overthinking it and have got my dates wrong, just find it hard to stay positive when I've miscarried a few times before.

Xxx

Hi

Exactly the same thing happened to me this time last year - I went for a reassurance scan, to be told there was a yolk sac but no visible pole. I thought I was 6 weeks + but the sonographer was adamant I was too early, or something had gone wrong. I was almost 100% certain on my dates, so feared the worst. Had a scan at our EPU a week later, and saw a little heart beating away - who is now upstairs sleeping away soundly.

My fingers are crossed for you. I spent the week before the EPU scan going between despair and frantically googling for reassuring stories, it’s a tough time! Hopefully you’ll get some good news Smile

Thanks to your post I will actually get some sleep tonight!
Aww, that has reassured me so much so thank you for posting.GrinI love a happy ending! I think until anyone sees the hearbeat it's so hard to just relax and sail through early pregnancy! Hormones don't help either.Blush So glad you got a healthy baby! - early scans can both be a blessing and a curse, strike the fear of god in us sometimes but when all is well it's amazing.

I've had exactly the same issue, I went for a scan last week should have been 6+3 however when I went they could only see yok sak, I went back today a week later and baby clearly seen with a heartbeat , my dates are still out from my last period but I'm reassured that we are on the right road

kpeanut94 · 03/10/2018 22:24

Ahhh excellent stuff!
I think my minds at ease now, thank you so much ladies!Smile I've definitely seen more good stories than bad that is for sure.

Wishing you all healthy pregnancies from here on out.❤️

This has happened twice to me. One was a good outcome, one wasn’t.

kpeanut94 · 04/10/2018 07:38

Was a yolk sac seen? I know blighted ovums happen a lot but they don't contain yolk sacs so I'm hanging onto hope.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience :(

I had this with my second pregnancy- I was dated further back than I thought at an early scan (and there was a fetal pole/ yolk sack but no hb). I was very sceptical as according to their dates I was ovulating when I got my BFP Confused
But when I went back there was a heartbeat and dates had come forward (a little). Was all very bizarre!
Wishing you the very best.

UPDATE!

Been back rescan today and there was baby, heart beating strong. Never been more relieved, time to kick back and chill xx
