First midwife appointment

I saw GP last night and have first midwife appointment next week when I'll be 7 weeks.
Just realised that antenatal appointments are paid for at work and I'm really relieved as my midwife finishes at 3 so it will be in work time .
However this now means that I will have to tell my employer I'm pregnant and it's an antenatal appointment.
I wanted to wait until I was a few more weeks or st least had some screening ..
should I just tell?

It's up to you, really.

If you tell your employer, then they're more aware of support you'll need if there is an issue.

However, you could just book the whole day as annual leave (which is what I did) and wait to tell them until you've had your scan.

I only took mine as leave because my employer is my Mum, and I didn't want to announce it to family until we'd had the scan. If it hadn't been for that, I would have explained that it was an antenatal appointment I think.

You can't have the paid time off for the appointment unless you let them know you're pregnant, so it's up to you whether you tell them now or use annual leave for appointments until you feel more comfortable telling them. It will be treated confidentially and they can't carry out a risk assessment until they know so personally I opted to tell my manager early on.

I booked it as leave then after 12 week scan all other apps I took as antenatal leave

You don't have to tell everyone at work, if you decide to tell. I just told my boss before the scan so that I could have the time off easily, and then told the office generally afterwards.

I booked mine for 8am then went to work afterwards. Told them it was a Dr's appointment I think. Medical appointments are paid here anyway but if they weren't I could have just made the time up at lunch. Is there an option of doing something like that?

I booked half the day off as a holiday and didn’t tell them until after the first scan. I’m glad because I had two missed miscarriages last year discovered at the first scan and I really wouldn’t have wanted work to know, I just wanted to keep it to myself.

Thanks everyone! I told my manager today all was good and I feel so relieved 😅
