Can’t poo 😩

Hi all

DS is 11 days old today and I can’t seem to poo. I feel like I need to go all the time but I can’t. I have been since he’s been born but the next day is the same! I’ve googled and the first thing that came up was bowel cancer! Feeling slightly worried 😔

It’s probably all your hormones lovely, have you spoken to your midwife or health visitor? I’m sure they will be able to advise.

I had to take laxitives after both DC, the after effects of surgery seem to linger for me.

I haven't given birth yet but constipation has plagued me since conception! I would try not to google your symptoms, you could have a head ache and google would tell you it was brain cancer. Speak to your doctor or health visitor. They may suggest something like lactulose, that's worked great for me.

LatteLover12 · 30/09/2018 19:53

Are you on iron supplements or codeine?

Both of those can cause constipation. Definitely talk to Your mw, she’ll have heard it all before.

Congratulations on the new arrival Flowers

I doubt it's bowel cancer given that all women who have just given birth get constipated. Are you well hydrated?

Angelmiracle · 30/09/2018 20:03

Try Movical or Lactulose. I had lots of difficulty too because I had a spinal block. It was worse than labour trying to go after an episioptomy Shock

mintich · 30/09/2018 20:29

I had loads of difficulty too. Had an episiotomy so was in a lot of pain. Tried lactulose but didn't help. In the end I had a Max strength senokot. Oh my god, the results weren't pretty but it did the job. The midwives and health visitors did tell me that if you hold on too long it can start to come back up the other way (!) So that encouraged me somewhat!

IchFliegeNach · 30/09/2018 20:31

I had this - lactulose, lots of fluids, prunes and relaxing!
Good luck, it's miserable x

gloopygloop · 30/09/2018 20:32

I was the same after giving birth so I drank prune juice and ate all bran and drank lots of water. This worked for me. Good luck!

Thank you all.

Seeing the midwife tomorrow so will mention it to her. It’s annoying because I want to go but I can’t 😩

Peppermint oil in hot water

fuzzywuzzy · 30/09/2018 21:06

Keep drinking lots of water. Try warm water with honey and lemon first thing in the morning.

But as it’s been a while since you’ve been, you may need laxatives to help things along.

I also had this with my first dc following an episiotomy. My problem was exacerbated by the the fear I had about my stitches.

Tell your doctor, they’re best placed to help here.

Lactulose takes about 2-3 days to work properly but a godsend! Had about 4 bouts of horrible constipation this pregnancy and definitely taking Lactulose up till the end. Prune juice/dried prunes work much faster (30mins - 1hour) but really dislike the taste and they make me feel slightly sick and bloated for the rest of the day :(. Can't imagine being able to stomach that in the days just before and after birth.

User12879923378 · 30/09/2018 21:30

It's not cancer! I was constipated all the way through

L0kiWh0 · 30/09/2018 23:08

If you can’t stomach prune juice, Ella’s kitchen do a prune pouch which is bearable if mixed with a little Greek yoghurt.

BlueBug45 · 01/10/2018 00:01

I used lactulose, fybogel, prunes, other dried fruit and the veg that made me go toilet when I was pregnant. Then within 24 hours I did one small poo. I kept this going for a week and started pooing normally. Then I removed the fybogel and only used the Lactulose when I had no motions.

Fresh orange juice and make sure you are drinking enough fluids.

Did you had a bad tear? Could you psychologically be worried about pushing?

barnacharmer · 01/10/2018 00:16

After i was put on iron tablets I relied on prune juice. I downed it as fast as possible and had another drink ready to take the taste away
