Washable maternity pads

FTM due in December but trying to prepare slowly!
Has anyone tried washable maternity pads? I don't know yet how many I might need or even when you need to start using them (or finish!). I've seen some people saying that washable sanitary pads don't cut it in terms of absorbency so I don't really know what to expect but if possible would rather have something reusable than be adding to landfill.
Has anyone used anything they can recommend?

Yes I’m going to make some post partum pads. My daughter age 12 uses reusable sanitary pads, some I’ve bought and some I’ve made. I’m going to make the pp pads longer with a more absorbent core
