Blood clot in pregnancy

Hi everyone,

I am currently ten weeks pregnant and the last two days I’ve been experiencing shortness of breath to the point I can’t even put my socks on without a rest!

I called 111 yesterday and have been to hospital and as my lungs sound clear they don’t think it’s asthma but instead think it’s a blood clot.

I’ve had to self inject anti coagulants and went for a scan this morning to rule out dvt in my legs. I have to go for a vq scan tomorrow or the day after but I don’t really know what that is and I’m both worried I actually have a blood clot and worried about the baby. I suppose I’m just looking for reassurance from anyone whose experienced similar or found it was something else instead?

@Lexica86. I'm sorry that I can't reassure you exactly! I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism two weeks ago! I was in denial and stomped my feet about having the VQ scan because of the radiation. I was gobsmacked when they said I had a P.E!

What time is your scan? If you havent
had it already then just lay there and relax the best you can. I think every scanner is a bit different but I found it a bit claustrophobic when the camera plate was right on top of me so I just closed my eyes and breathed gently in and out.

I'm on injectable's until March now Shock I have my first midwife appointment this morning since my diagnosis.

I hope that it turns out to be nothing for you but if you need to chat or ask more questions then I'd be happy to help.

Good luck x x

@LookingAtTheStars89 thank you so much for replying! Apparently it is quite rare, 1 in 2000 women develop a blood clot in pregnancy so wasn’t surprised not to get more replies.

I’m sorry to hear yours was P.E, that’s definitely what they think I’m experiencing. I just thought they’d give me an inhaler and send me on my way when this started but I’m definitely feeling more unwell.
I’m waiting for a phone call from the hospital at the moment with an appointment so will hopefully get seen today or tomorrow morning.
Did you experience pain or just shortness of breath? I mainly feel breathless, tired and a bit dizzy, no swelling or pain and I’ve started coughing quite a lot. I keep thinking it surely can’t be something so scary but I can’t explain it away as something else either.

Thanks again for your support x

@Lexica86. Yes I read it was quite rare too. When they told me I almost wanted to laugh and say "Well you must have the wrong person".

It was the fast heart rate that got me first, then regular palpatations and then shortness of breath. I had dizziness mixed in there too. I have occasionally had a slightly raised temperature too. I used my inhalers more often when my GP said it was a chest infection. I really never thought anything more of it at first.
