Gigs and Concerts whilst pg - what's the deal?

Thank goodness for Mumsnet - I'd be grateful for any first hand experience you ladies may have...?

I'm due to attend a gig with my DH when I will be 7 months pg. It is in a small, sweaty club and the band in question are very loud and shouty, and it is fair to say that there is a fair amount of dancing (especially near te front) when they play.

My DH is now doing a whole 'I don't think you should go' thing, despite the fact that I have said I will stand right at the back so as not to be 'jostled'.

If I feel OK, do you think I should go? How did you guys feel at 7 months? it will only be for an hour and a bit, max.

any tips?

I went to see franz ferdinand when i was 36 weeks pregnant! Needed to be near toilet and also had a chair handy! Baby loved it though!!!

ThomCat · 12/06/2007 13:55

I've been to gigs, festivals, concerts etc etc when pregnant and was always ok. People close by you notice, im my experience, and everyone is really respectfula dn watches out for you, it's lovley.

For example at carnival I had my own little space and people near me dancing who had seen made sure that others walking through knew I was pregnant.

just feels odd dancing with a bump but mine have always had a really good kick around to the music when i've done things like this.

I just keep my hands out in front of my bump and enjoy myself.

Have fun

I went with a friend to a gig in quite a small sweaty venue when she was about 7 months pregnant and she was absolutely fine (just a bit warm!). As long as you take it easy you should be fine.

oliveoil · 12/06/2007 13:57

I went to a festival, a 'civilised' one when pregnant with dd1, I think I was about 6 months

she kicked along when the bands were on

but I am not sure I would go to a small crowded club tbh, I was outside and had lots of room

pirategirl · 12/06/2007 14:08

i went to see a reggae guy called Big Youth, when abot 36 weeks!!!

Baby loved it, even tho the bass was reverberating round the room like a samll jet taking off.

i had spd, but just took it easy, the worse thing was not being able to have a beer!

I went to small (but noisy) gigs at 11, 17 and 25wks without any problems.
Standing next to a wall so you can take some of the weight off your feet is a good plan if you can manage it.

I say go, but warn DH that you're not up for moshing and/or might get tired and need to sit down...

Mindles · 12/06/2007 14:12

Ooh do go. I missed Rancid last november cos my best friend refused to go with - "You'll go into labour and I'll have to deal with it" was her excuse. But we went to see a different band when I was about 6 or 7 mnths - they were very loud and shouty but I had a great time and so did the baby, I think.

Mindles · 12/06/2007 14:13

Don't not go because he doesn't think you should - I still have not forgiven my friend!

fryalot · 12/06/2007 14:14

I went to see Peter Gabriel whilst 8 months pg - twas fab. Baby loved it and jiggled along with the music. (report in paper next day mentioned heavily pregnant woman dancing near the front )

Went to see REM when about 7 months, but sat down for all of that one.

Would recommend it, but if you need to sit down, don't think you have to stand and dance.

Enjoy

I went to see the Stones when I was 3 days overdue. Go, the more pregnant you are the better because everyone is so nice to you and the St John's ambulance crew gets all excited because they think they might have something different to deal with. You also get to jump the queue to get in - wahey. I also saw Whitesnake bothe times I was pregnant. Unbelievably it was also the only time I ever met a band and got back stage. They were lovely and patted my bump and asked all sorts of nice questions that you wouldn't expect from a rock n roll band

fryalot · 12/06/2007 14:20

and you get to use the "private" toilets because when you say you need to go, nobody will dare stop you

Naetha · 12/06/2007 14:33

I've just come back from 5 days at the Download festival while 10 weeks pregnant. Hopefully no damage was done, I was a bit worried about vibes (Korn were VERY loud!) but don't think there were any problems

I've got a load of concerts coming up in October/November (due in January) and hopefully I'll be able to go to all of them, although some of the smaller ones may be tough!

Holly29 · 12/06/2007 15:20

You guys are genius. It's The Hives at the 100 Club in Oxford Street - and I love them. I am definitely going to go. I really appreciate every one of your answers!

Will dance around near the back (and print out this thread for my DH).

Holly29
so glad you like the Hibes, my dh is doing their new website. he says the are Very Nice Young Men. Have a great gig!

suzywong · 12/06/2007 15:36

feck, that should be HiVes not Hibes

they just finished recording their last album in deepest darkest Mississipi.

Holly29 · 12/06/2007 16:56

OOOOhhhh, how exciting that you sort of know them! I have quite a big crush on Howlin' Pelle and they all seem like thoroughly cool blokes, who are just having a good time...

SallyAllbright · 12/06/2007 17:46

ooh have been to some great gigs at the 100 Club - go straight over to the left-hand side when you go in, it is usually a bit quieter over there and probably some tables and chairs in case you need to take the weight off your feet. Also that's where the toilets are IIRC - very important!

have a fab time!

suzywong · 13/06/2007 01:51

holly29, because you are a north Londoner, as was I, why don't you CAT me and I 'll see if I can send you a rather amusing picture.

Or perhaps you have better things to do

SofiaAmes · 13/06/2007 05:33

I went to V2000 when I was 6 or 7 months pregnant with ds and had a great time. He made me throw up in all the jangly guitar tents and LOVED the high energy dance tent. Funny thing was that when he was born, his tastes were just the same. I think I went again when I was pregnant with dd except I was more like 8 months gone. It did help that I had VIP passes and was able to go backstage and have a rest. Being jostled was not really an issue...people gave me space...maybe it was the puking that encouraged that, though.

beller · 13/06/2007 07:45

well im going to watch snow patrol, v fest, police and take that! The only one im a bit jubious about is Take That, as I will be 8 months and i have to travel to Birmingham! Im sure all will be fine though!
Go and enjoy!! xx

Tinkjon · 13/06/2007 09:28

My DD loved her Kylie concert

Holly29 · 13/06/2007 10:46

Suzy

I'm a total technophobe and do not understand what CAT means? I'd like a funny picture though...

As long as you feel safe it shouldnt be a problem, I havent been to any major gigs but i've been to a couple of open mic nights in a small pub whilst pregnant and baby loved it. It also turns out thats i was 6weeks pregnant when i went to see dragonforce, and i was squished right at the front! I think thats why baby likes dragonforce now!
