Gigs and Concerts whilst pg - what's the deal?

Thank goodness for Mumsnet - I'd be grateful for any first hand experience you ladies may have...?

I'm due to attend a gig with my DH when I will be 7 months pg. It is in a small, sweaty club and the band in question are very loud and shouty, and it is fair to say that there is a fair amount of dancing (especially near te front) when they play.

My DH is now doing a whole 'I don't think you should go' thing, despite the fact that I have said I will stand right at the back so as not to be 'jostled'.

If I feel OK, do you think I should go? How did you guys feel at 7 months? it will only be for an hour and a bit, max.

any tips?

I love the fact that we all seem to be rockers here!

Good on yer all!

eidsvold · 13/06/2007 11:37

Last year when pregnant with dd3 - saw Dixie Chicks, U2 and Paul Kelly. Babe loved it kicking along and I was fine - as to hot and sweaty - make sure you drink lots of water to counteract that.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 11:49

Stand at the back, and you will get plenty of consideration and admiring glances!
I have been to a jam packed basement jaxx gig at brixton academy, a weekend at Glastonbury at 7 months pregnant and red hot chilli peppers two days before my due date.

Have fun!

ThomCat · 13/06/2007 11:59

red hot chilli pepper 2 days before due date is uber cool, I applaud you for that one!

And I agree about the admiring glances, people are so lovely whne you are out and pregnant.

I'm off to Canvas in a months time -

The legendary New York club night Body & Soul is coming to London this summer.

It will take place at Canvas in Kings Cross on July 14.

Residents Danny Krivit, Francois K and Joe Claussell will, naturally, be at the controls from 8pm through to 6am.

A specially modified sound system is being flown over for the event, and the outdoor terrace will also be open for business.

Not only that, but Ariel, the lighting jock from the New York club is being flown in too.

The night started in 1996, and drew a crowd of 7000 clubbers to its tenth anniversary celebrations last year.

Not sure I'll last from 8pm to 6am though!

Went to a gig 10 days before DD2 was due,(I was huge) security stopped me going in to ask where I was sitting, made me aware of where first aid posts were etc and it was fine

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 12:26

Thomcat, nooo!

I have heard so many good things about Body & Soul. My friends band (moloko) wrote a song named after it.
I will have to get DP to babysit for that night!

Sarahjct · 13/06/2007 13:06

Hello all

I thought I was the only one selfish enough to want to continue to go out instead of lolling around! My issue is similar - The Pogues traditional Christmas concert around December 22nd at the Brixton Academy. I'm due on January 10th. We do usually sit upstairs but it's rowdy enough even up there.

Do you think I could get away with it? I'd be devastated to miss it!

Huge Kudos and resspect to TheDevilWP

does the child like RHCP now?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 13:48

Sarah, there's no reson not to!

Suzywong, he loves them, he does a hilarious dance to Blood sugar sex magik (oops call SS! ) and will be seeing them next year again! lol.

ThomCat · 13/06/2007 15:08

DevilWearsPrimark - if you are serious then we have 3 spare tickets.

It's going to be AMAZING!

I've been to Body and Soul in NY 3 times and wow. Wow, wow, wow, WOW!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 15:16

Very!
Oooh I'm excited. Do you live in London? Would you like to meet for a drink sometime soon, we seem to have somethings in common!?

ThomCat · 13/06/2007 15:17

I live just outside, Pinner, not far from Wembley / HArrow, that neck of the woods.

Let me know if you want them. my friend has them all bought and paid for going spare so let me know. And if you do go, will deffo have to have a drink and you can laugh at me trying to dance with large bump attached to me!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 15:25

Lol. I like your spirit!
I went to one gig whilst pregnant and the tour manager's wife was due that day so I guess he took pity on me and he invited us backstage afterwards. It was great!

ThomCat · 13/06/2007 15:50

Ohhh nice to get a bit of backstage action aye!

suzywong · 13/06/2007 16:07

to you Devil, RHCP came to Australia earlier this year, could they be arsed to come to Perth? No. Do I still love them? Yes. Apart from some of the more prog rock stracks on Stadium Arcadium. My sons' fave is Californication. Double Header for SS I think between us.

I have never seen RHCP, unless you count Chad and Taylor Hawkins hand rolling cigarettes together back stage at Brixton FF gig many moons ago.

southeastastra · 13/06/2007 16:10

(ooh Moloko!) great band

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 16:13

I've seen them four times.
The first was at the Reading festival and I got kicked in the face ,ended up with broken gkasses and a nasty cut, but still danced on after being patched up by a nice st johns amulance man!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 16:13

RHCP are worth injury and a fat opticians bill!

elfinblast · 14/06/2007 20:49

I went to loads of gigs each time I was pregnant, and a couple of festivals.
Obviously the mosh pit is best avoided but a bit of a bop in a less populated corner does no harm.

onesmallkayak · 14/06/2007 21:02

Everyone is so positive about going to a concert while pregnant but my experience with 2 different babies is that the loud noise made it and me feel really anxious and I had to leave after a very short time. With the first baby I was really surprised at how uncomfortable I became. The second time I realised I had been stupid to buy tickets but we left early enough to be allowed a refund. So I wouldn't go to a concert but that doesn't seem to be the general experience.

OliviaMumsnet · 14/06/2007 21:04

Test post - please ignore.

Curlykirsty · 14/06/2007 22:20

I went to 2 different gigs of very differing sizes within a week of each other when I was about 16 weeks pregnant.

The first was a huge out door gig at the Eden project after spending a day walking round, bump seemed to enjoy it, felt first movements next day and now at 20 weeks old he still seems to get quite excited by Muse who we saw.

The second gig was in a tiny venue but was again quite a loud rocky band. Again bump didn't seem to mind although I tired alot more quickly. Think it was the heat from such a tightly packed crowd.

madamez · 14/06/2007 22:23

I saw a couple of bands while pregnant (just bar bands that no one will have heard of and can barely remember the names). Also went to a ceilidh when 1 day overdue, with my birth partner following me round and everyone taking bets on when I'd pop. So the answer is: see how you feel, there's no reason why you shouldn't go, but maybe it's best to be prepared for the fact that you might feel rough and have to leave partway through.

Obviously if you're having bad time anyway, or have very hugely swollen ankles or something then you might be better off at home but if you feel OK you should be fine, and your bump will love it.

everdecreasingcircles · 15/06/2007 06:49

I'm off to Wembley to see Ozzy Osbourne on Tuesday YAAAAAY - sooooo excited

I'll be 22 weeks pregnant and dh is fussing. But it's a seated gig, and as everyone has said most people are protective of a lady with a bump!

jojomummy · 15/06/2007 09:50

Think it definitely depends how you feel. I went to many gigs and gigged myself up until three weeks before - bump always seemed to love it even with Mum standing three feet away from a drum kit !!! - Only downside is she is now a bit of a music critic so at 1 will not listen to the usual nursery rhyme cd's and is far more partial to a bit of muse and the RHCP, plus enjoys a nice bop to Take That. Enjoy Ozzy should be fantastic.
