Worried I have GD but doctors won’t test me at 36weeks

Hi everyone!
First baby so kinda freaking out.
Been having 4 weekly growth scans as they was worried baby was small, for the last 3 scans they have said baby is big - big head and tummy off the scale. Last scan at 36 weeks they mentioned he was estimated weight at 7.14, could even see he’s fat rolls on the scan! Have to go back at 38 weeks if too big to be induced but no mention of testing for GD? Consultant just said to cut sugary things from my diet.
No diabetes in family etc or mention of glucose in urine but worried that I may have it undiagnosed? Midwife said it’s too late to test now too. Don’t want anything happening to my baby. :(
Anyone got any suggestions? Thank you x (sorry for long post)

You could buy a machine and test your blood sugars yourself?

Babynumberonexx · 30/09/2018 09:21

@ButAIBUtho I was thinking of doing that. Is it from boots? I wouldn’t have a clue what sugar levels I should be reading etc

Yeah from boots or probably a cheaper one on Amazon.

I know that your blood sugars should roughly be about 6, and it's the higher numbers that are more of the worry.

I'm surprised that your MW claims that it's too late for a GTT test. I'm having one at 34 weeks, it's not that far from your 36 weeks.

Plus you could be pregnant for another 6 weeks yet. That's 6 weeks of hyperglycaemias that could be bad for the baby.
I think you need to make a fuss about this.

You should at the very least cut all added sugar from your diet, minimize carbs and focus on protein. I know it’s not the most fun way to spend the last few weeks of pregnancy but if you do have GD it could keep it under control and if you don’t, it’s healthy anyway. Good luck.

Thank you both for your replies!
@butAIBUtho they have given me another growth scan at 38 weeks and if weighs over 4.5kg they want to induce me so I don’t think they will let me go to 40+ weeks.
I’m going to ring the midwife tomorrow and push for one. Thank you

@BlowPoke I’ve cut out all junk food, sugary treats etc but sweetener in morning tea ok? I know it sounds stupid but it’s routine since as long as I can remember lol

Sweetener is fine.
