A cold the week before labour?!

Very wishful thinking on my part and wanting a positive distraction from the horrible cold I’ve got - headaches, jaw aches, stuffy nose, cough, can’t sleep etc

I’ve been reading online that there’s an old wives tale of getting a cold the week or so before labour? I’m currently 35 weeks so a bit far off yet but just wondering if this was true for anyone? I know in general I’ve more than likely just got a horrible cold but really interested to hear some responses! Any recommendations on what to take too will also be helpful!

😁

Oh I had a horrid cold a week or so before! Never heard of the old wives tale though. My main worry was going into labour while still feeling rotten as I just didn’t think I could do it when so knackered and coughing etc. I wondered if my body would wait until I was stronger - and it did! Grin

I’ve never heard that one before but I’m 36 weeks today with a cold that hasn’t shifted for nearly 2 weeks now so maybe that old wives tale passed me by!

39 weeks today and have had a cold for a few days. Basically went on mat leave at 37 weeks then 2 days later DD got a horrible cold/cough. Passed it to me. Really hoping I get better soon!

I can only imagine how horrendous having a cold later in pregnancy is! I’ve done nothing but moan about this one, it’s utterly awful! Good luck to you both! Hopefully your colds will go and the beautiful babies will come!

I hadn’t heard of it either until I was googling/not being able to sleep last night!

I sincerely hope there's no truth in that :P. Just getting over a rotten head cold, am only week 27 but was so miserable I thought there's no way I can handle this later on in pregnancy, let alone labour! Literally couldn't eat, breathe or sleep for days while baby is kicking up a storm and the dehydration caused a ton of Braxton Hicks which in turn triggered all my anxiety. Paracetamol didn't even put a dent into it but thankfully it's gotten better today. I'm vowing to go into full germophobe mode these final few months...hand washing, disinfectant wipes, avoiding crowds and sick people!

I think it's quite common to have flu-like symptoms in the run-up to labour. Rest assured though that even if you do still have these symptoms during labour, they'll barely register to you when you're in the swing of things!

No.... tomorrow is my due date and I am very glad to have avoided the horrible cold my husband is currently suffering from! Doubt there's anything in it. Probably women get colds around that point more easily as a result of not sleeping well, combined with a lower immune system during pregnancy. It's also that time of year - change in season, suddenly colder, kids back at school...
