Anyone else have a weird looking 3D scan?

Hi all,

I'm currently 16+5 with my first baby. We went for a private sexing scan today and found out we're having a daughter ❤

The sonographer said everything looked good and healthy and we're thrilled! Yet, I cannot help but be a little freaked out by our 3D pictures! Little lady had her face turned away the whole time and was squashed right against the placenta! I suppose nobody would look good in those circumstances but she does look a little odd!

Has anyone else had slightly terrifying 3D scans?

I find 3D scans terrifying in general.

We got a free one as part of our gender scan, but we hadn't realised that when we booked. We'd both spoken before about how freaky we find them and how we didn't want one, and then suddenly popped up our darling baby girl, looking like a combination of a melted candle and the Scream painting by Edvard Munch.

Here she is, to haunt your nightmares...

We both cracked up when we saw her. I'm saving it for her 18th birthday.

All absolutely terrifying . My boys now look quite nice and average (Ds2 is even quite good looking, though his 3d scan gave him a nose like Pinocchio). Congratulations!

Yes definitely, we had a gender scan at 18 weeks. We didn't pay for the 3D scan but she put it on the screen for us to see and it was really strange. I think it was just too early. If I was going to pay for one I would wait until much further along as the early ones are a bit freaky.

They’re all freaky at that gestation! They don’t look like cute, squishy babies on the 4D scan until at least 26 weeks!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who was slightly scared by their 3D scans! Our one looks like she's melting!

This made me laugh! I don't think any 3D scans look particularly good so have never booked one for myself, congratulations on your daughter

This was my preview at our scan, safe to say I didn't opt for another peek as i found this really weird. She said the dark patch is his soft spot but it really creeped me out! Congratulations x

They are all some lovey pics. Mine was actually a really good clear one at 17 weeks and didn't freak me out at all. Congratulations on your pregnancy x

They look like aliens at that stage and the 3d scan just exaggerates it.

Ours was the same but as with yourself and others it was at an early gender scan. They don't offer 4D scans at that gestation due to this reason! It's not for a fair few more weeks that they pack some more fat on and have more defined features. They just show you the sneak to encourage you to book one

My 3D scan pics were good for the most part but yes she did look like a scary monster in some.

I had a gender scan recently at 15 weeks and had the option for a 4D preview and they were very quick to tell me to avoid it as the baby is very tiny and skinny and it can be slightly off putting! They usually recommend them at 20+ weeks!

i just got mine yesterday at 16+3 and just think my wee boy looks so strange, looks like he has something growing on his head! but the sonographer said all was looking good but it’s always hard not to worry x
