Strep B Testing

Hi,

I'm 35 weeks tomorrow. Have any of you requested a Strep B test and if so what was the response from the midwife? It is something I have read about and have thought about requesting a test when I visit my midwife this week. I guess it is not something she will bring up or offer to me.

I understand that there is a private test you can have.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

I asked my Dr for a GBS test. I had the NHS one and it tested positive. If you test negative with the NHS one it isn't necessarily accurate - my Dr said if it came back negative I would need to think about having the private test (a positive test on the NHS one is accurate though).

The GBSS website is really good and tells you everything you need to know. Sorry - I can't do links!

Here's the link for the private test. It should be done between 35-37 weeks and it arrives in a couple of days from when you phone to request it.

Should have said it's £32 which you only pay when you send the test back.

Thats great thank you both. I'll have a good read before I go to the midwife tomorrow.
