Baby Observation

I am currently studying child development as part of a child psychotherapy and counselling MSc.

In order to fulfil one of the requirements of the course, I'm trying to find someone who is currently pregnant (preferably due to give birth within the next month or so) and would allow me to observe their baby for an hour a week, in their own home, for about a year, beginning when the baby is 7-10 days old. This is so we can learn by direct observation, rather than solely through books.

I'm afraid I can't offer anything in return other than my gratitude as we're not allowed to financially compensate the mother, or to help out with the baby as it would compromise the observation. I am female, currently work with children, am DBS checked and can provide any further information you may require.

I don't want to post my exact location, but to save wasting people's time you would need to be in or very near SW London. If you might be interested in this, please do get in touch via PM.

Thank you!

I’m not a suitable candidate for you but just wanted to say that a friend of mine allowed her baby and herself to be observed for something similar. She found it very interesting from a self reflection point of view and enjoyed the company once a week. Hope you find a volunteer!

I wish I could help; I fulfil all the criteria but live in Bristol. Have you considered posting on local mum's sites on Facebook, or maybe seeing if you can put posters up in local coffee shops or something?

I think any mum with a new baby would be happy for the company!
