Dating an IVF pregnancy

I had a frozen embryo transfer last month which took. I started having bleeding at 6w so went in for an early scan at what I thought was 6w4d.

The sonographer took my dates and told me I was actually only 4w as ivf pregnancies are dated differently. Was she correct to say this??

The reason I ask is she saw a small empty sac that was by its size very early on, if I am correct at 6w4d then it’s likely it’s a blighted ovum and I will miscarry, but if she is correct that I’m only around 4 weeks then everything looks about right for that stage.

Anyone who has been through ivf and had their scans please advise!

When was your transfer and how old was the embryo?

So on the day of EC you are 2 weeks pregnant. If you had a day 5 embryo implanted then you’d be 19 days pregnant on the day of ET. Not sure if that helps? If you give me your dates I can work it out for you!

The embryos were transferred on the 29th August, they were 5 day blastocysts

So sounds like I was right and I should be 6w5d today?

I'm sorry, she's wrong. My IVf adjusted due date and my 'normal' due date by last menstrual period are two days apart. You shoukd complain, it's unfair that she's given you this false hope.

I agree... she works in the EPU and deals with ivf pregnancies as well as natural ones. She should understand the basics of pregnancy dating. I go back in next week, I think I will say something..
