Anyone with second pregnancy remember if they had to see midwife at 16 weeks? It says it it my notes but when I phoned community midwife she said I don't need to be seen till 24 weeks? Just wondering is this right or may she have over looked anything! Would be nice to hear the heart beat for the first time!

First pregnancies yes. Not sure about subsequent. Can't find anything on NHS but I know a fair few are missed out for second pregnancies onwards x

gemsparkle84 · 25/09/2018 22:55

This is my 2nd pregnancy. I saw my midwife at 16 weeks. X

Phillipa12 · 25/09/2018 22:59

With my second, third and fourth i saw the midwife at 16, 20 (scan) 28, 32, 36, 38, 40.

babystripes · 25/09/2018 23:02

I'm so confused about it! Says above my notes for all appointments that it would be the minimum amount of times I'll be seen through out... then when I phoned she said I won't be seen till 24 weeks! Have my 3D gender scan booked on the 18th Oct so atleast I'll get some reassurance from that! X

12, 18, 24, 28, 30 ... if I remember correctly

Angelmiracle · 25/09/2018 23:12

My 2nd preg too. My notes say to arrange 16 week appointment with midwife but that the 24 week appointment is only FTMs-maybe they are just doing it other way around?

LBNM19 · 25/09/2018 23:16

My 4th pregnancy and i saw the midwife at 16 weeks with all of mine.

babystripes · 25/09/2018 23:17

@Angelmiracle that's what it says on mine too! Maybe so 12 weeks to 24 weeks is such a long gap without getting all checked isn't it? It's making me so anxious!

I'm really think she may have made a mistake! Even all my pregnancy apps say u see your midwife at 16 weeks for an antenatal checkup! Confused

@babystripes do you want to try ringing again? Is it always the same midwife or do they change about? I make my appointments at GP surgery and the receptionists don't ask how far on you are or anything so I would make the appointment anyway and go. Or if you're talking to her say that you're concerned and would like to be checked.

babystripes · 25/09/2018 23:25

@Angelmiracle I'm not sure sure have o my ever had to phone that one time! My first born is 9 now so it's like new to me again! Might just phone my GP tomorrow morning and see do they have a midwife in the practice and see whether they think that's right or not! Just doesn't seem right to me! Thanks for the advice! X

@babystripes I'm currently pregnant with my second child. I also didn't see a midwife at 16 weeks. I've just had my scan at 20 weeks and then I'll be seeing the midwife at 24 weeks. Seems really odd to me, especially as they didn't check my urine or BP at my scan yesterday, so it will have been 11 weeks by the time I see my MW. Seems odd to me!

MsHopey · 26/09/2018 07:54

2nd pregnancy for me, just had the booking in appointment and midwife said to make an appointment with her for when I'm 16 weeks but to wait till after my 12 week scan.

SoyDora · 26/09/2018 07:59

Pregnant with my third and had an appointment at 16 weeks. Didn’t hear the heartbeat though, they don’t do it at that stage in my area.

Snap5 · 26/09/2018 08:03

Am in my 2nd pregnancy and saw my midwife at 12, 18, scan at 20, 24, 32, 36 etc. Can change for each person slightly depending on available dates and any problems that come up, but your 16 week is moved to 18 weeks and then you have a massive 6-7 week gap between midwife appointments.

babystripes · 26/09/2018 08:31

She didn't even say she was going to see me at 18 weeks! They said I'd be seen at 24 weeks that's such a long gap it's so confusing! I know it's different for everybody depending on prenatal risks but I thought they checked urine and blood pressure etc in between those times! Gonna phone my GP practice today and see what they think! Thanks everyone x

I'm pregnant with my second and I've got my 16 week appointment today. X

beccii161016 · 26/09/2018 08:57

I did but she just checked my urine and blood pressure and asked how I was. They don't listen to the heartbeat until 24 weeks in my area

SoyDora · 26/09/2018 09:05

I have no risk factors, the 16 week appt was just a standard urine dip/blood pressure test. And I gave the midwife the letter with my nuchal test results on.

PlayingForKittens · 26/09/2018 09:14

This is the recommended pathway by nice. The appointments at 25 and 31 and 40 weeks are for first time mothers, the others should be offered to all. The 18-20 Is the anomaly scan.

12, 16, 24 and 32 then fortnightly. Second pregnancy. There's one at 21 and 28 with your first.

I actually skipped my 16 week one this time as I didn't see the point.
