First day of last period makes me 7 weeks today but ive been having very dark spotting only on wiping so i was given a First scan at what i thought was 6 weeks, it showed a sac and yolk and measured only 5 weeks so i was called in a week later. Second scan today showed sac, yolk AND fetal pole measuring 4mm = 6 weeks but the lady scanning said it didint look promising. I asked why and she said she could see a flicker which could be a heartbeat or a maternal vessel bcoz it was a weak flicker. Im devastated. Any advise is appreciated

Sorry to hear this.

Bleeding is very common in early pregnancy; experienced it in first pregnancy and in current... and no matter how common, it's still frightening.

Have they said they're going to scan you a third time?

Hi @samiekay81, can't give you any advice, just share my experience. At my scan at 7 weeks the size indicated my dating was maybe 4days off what I thought (6+3), but the doctor did say it can be hard to date when they are so small, by 12 weeks I was all caught up! Even at 7 weeks seeing a heartbeat is not guaranteed.

WRT to spotting, I too had spotting after my early transvaginal scan, they warned this was possible due to the scan dislodging old 'material'. I wouldn't give up hope! If you're worried speak to your doctor. Good luck, wishing you a happy&healthy 9 months Thanks

@SPR1107 im not reeli worried about the dark spotting to be honest, im confused to what the lady said about the heartbeat? Maternal vessel? Im hoping scanning me at 6 weeks (so they say) just means its an early detected heartbeat and not a maternal vessel

I was scanned at 6 weeks due to bleeding (recently, currently 11 weeks), and was told it was an 'empty sac', she continued scanning, and found a tiny pulsating dot, no visible heartbeat though. She told me that I must of had my dates wrong, or that baby wasn't going to make it. I had a scan at 6 weeks with my DS and could see a clear strong heartbeat, so was expecting the same. I booked a private scan (£50), for two weeks later, which showed a strong heartbeat, and the dates matched up the what I had always expected them to be.
I think when it's so early, even a matter of days can make a huge difference.
I would really like to give you some reassurance that it will likely be okay, but obviously I don't know, but what I would advise, is if possible, get another scan booked in for 10 days - 2 weeks time, whether it be NHS or private, and take it from there
