Has anyone got any experience of expressing colosterum during pregnancy?

I have been advised to do this as my baby may need to supplementary feeds once born and I have been doing it for about 10 days now.

I'm collecting the colosterum in little 1ml and 2ml syringes and expressing by hand 2-3 times a day as advised.

Problem is I am only getting between 1ml and 2ml per day. I seems such a small amount.

Coulr anyone who has also done this give me an idea of how much colosterum you were able to express, are these tiny amounts normal? I am 39+3 if that makes a difference.

No experience yet as I’m only 31 weeks, but I’ve been given a leaflet similar to this: www.uhs.nhs.uk/Media/Controlleddocuments/Patientinformation/Pregnancyandbirth/Harvesting-colostrum-for-your-baby-patient-information.pdf and told that even 0.5ml is still valuable stuff, so sounds like you’re doing fine. I was also told it might be easier doing it in the bath, just in case you don’t already know that. Hopefully someone who knows more will be along soon!

You are expressing an amazing amount, really fabulous. Don't worry at all if you don't get more. For a healthy term baby even much smaller amounts are perfectly adequate for a supplementary feed.
