Anyone else having acne problems due to pregnancy? In my second trimester and keep reading about the pregnancy glow but unfortunately it's quite the opposite for me! My skin has broke out! Can anyone recommend anything that might help?

A good skincare routine! Cleanse, tone and moisturise. It’s all that worked for me x

I had acne before getting pregnant and wistfully hoped the hormones would banish it for a bit. No such luck and it's worse than ever. A fair amount of research later and I'm currently using Sukin cleansing gel sensitive skin (boots), alcohol free toner (simple) and Hydro boost water gel as a moisturiser (neutrogena). Have also just ordered a serum with vitamin c and hyaluronic acid, plus another night moisturiser by Sukin. Avoid anything with sacylic acid in it. Most helpfully my GP said I could see him once I've had the baby to look at it (was too proud to go to them before) so at least I've got that if all else fails.

All sympathies - adult acne sucks, I want to glow too!

I cleanse tone and moisturise every morning and night and wash my face through out the day to try and control it! Hopefully it eases of soon! Thanks for the tips must try some of those products to see if they will work for me! Darn hormones! But all will be with it in the end! Thanks guys x

Yes during my 3rd pregnancy even my chest was covered in spots. I already had a good skin care routine and it cleared up by itself once my hormones settled. I'm 31 weeks with baby number 4 and I've never had a pregnancy glow. Hmm

My skin got progressively worse during my first pregnancy, then after birth I ended up with nasty painful cystic acne which scarred my face. I eventually got put onto roaccutane. Sadly had to end my breast feeding at 5 months with my first, which I still feel sad about now. But 3 years later 34 weeks pregnant with my 2nd, not a spot since! Still have some scars, I'm so much more confident, and I don't hide away indoors. I think hormones triggered my acne, but since the roaccutane I haven't had any reoccurances! It's not for everyone, but was brilliant for me. Hope yours improves, it's tough.

You could ask GP for azelaic acid (finacea). It may help to reduce bacteria and inflammation on skin. Ok to use in pregnancy.

I had acne before I was pregnant but I couldn't use my usual acne cream because I was pregnant.

My gp prescribed me something different that Safe for use in pregnancy, it's called acnecide.

You could try that along with a good cleanser and oil free moisturiser.

pumpkinpie01 · 25/09/2018 08:45

Try a moisturiser called silver serum by the skin shop, if you google it has amazing reviews, it really sorted my skin out.

Stephisaur · 25/09/2018 08:52

@Tiffinyc don't wash your face during the day, water dries it out. Dry skin = spots. I have to use an oil based cleanser to tackle my spots because my skin is SO dry, but if you don't have dry, flaky skin then you won't need that. It's about balancing out your oil levels :) x

Thank you all so much for all the advice! Xx

I've had this problem. I have stopped wearing makeup as I found it was making the problem worse. I wash my face morning and night with Dove soap. It seems to be keeping my skin clear.

This was a huge issue for me with my first. After doing some research I came across this review of Proactiv in Cosmo and decided to talk to my doctor about it: www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/beauty-hair/makeup/how-to/a2053/proactiv-acne-solution-review/

Once I got the okay my skin was cleared up in a few weeks. When I got pregnant again with DS2 I just started back up and was able to avoid major breakouts entirely.

Mivery did you get the ok to use Proactiv during pregnancy I’m pregnant and my skin is so bad I want to use it but seen mixed reviews about it during pregnancy xx

This happened to me with my first pregnancy. It was horrible. Everyone kept telling me it would go away once I'd had the baby but it didn't. I saw several GP's who prescribed a variety of lotions and potions that did nothing. The only thing that worked was oral antibiotics, which I had to take for six months. Cleared my skin up completely and the scarring faded so that it's easily covered by subtle make up.

Hi I got bad acne with my first baby towards the end of my first trimester and it just got worse throughout my pregnancy. It continued after giving birth to the point where I wouldn’t leave the house it was awful. I got prescribed tablets post birth after giving up BF I think they may have been antibiotics and this cleared it up within a few weeks. I’m expecting again and worried this will happen again so would be good if anyone knows of anything that could either help prevent it or if there’s anything that can be prescribed whilst pregnant!

I used the caveman method and it worked in 2 weeks after 3 years of adult acne

Thank you all!
