Hi all,

First time posting here and just looking for some advice... Might be TMI and sorry for that!!
I’m 38 weeks+2 today and yesterday, I had a small gush of clear/milky white fluid. I wasn’t sure if it was my waters or if it was my mucus plug as I’ve been told that can be watery. I put a pad on and lay down for an hour and it wasn’t soaking, only a wee bit damp. Do you think it could be my waters? X

Hi, sounds like discharge being milky white which can increase near the end but any sort of gush of fluid especially if then leaving a pad damp should be checked out because if your waters go you are then at risk of infection. I would call the local midwife unit as they can easily check if it was your waters. Good luck!

Your waters would most likely be clear fluid so it sounds like discharge or possibly a small part of your mucus plug. Also be aware that once your plug fully comes out it's normal to have a small trickle of water, that's just fluid that has built up behind the plug.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear; I know how exciting it can be to think things are starting! But it sounds more like watery discharge, maybe with some urine. If it were your waters trickling you'd still be going now. Keep an eye on things thought as it could be that things are starting to progress :)

I think it could be your plug as mine was similar to what you describe and it took a couple of days to come away completely. No harm in asking your MW who will probably suggest you get checked if she suspects it is your water. How exciting , not long now Grin

Thanks so much for your replies! I wasn’t sure if it was my waters or not, but I did think if it was then the pad would be more than damp lol. I think I’ll give my midwife a wee phone later if i feel It’s getting worse etc. Grin

If it's milky it's not your waters as they're clear or if anything a yellow ish colour. It could be your plug or just one of those end-of-third-trimester symptoms. I remember having a lot of discharge at the end and kept thinking I'd wet myself Blush
