Nub theory/stacking.. Can anyone help with a sexing question?

Hi,

Had my scan at 13+1, got a few images. One looks very girly to me and I can’t work out the others. I posted on a “nub expert” FB page and majority said girl, until I posted another picture and then lots said it looks like the nub is stacked so must be boy? Others disagreed and said it wasn’t stacked, it was leg imaging, as the picture after the “stacked” one showed the leg much clearer in the scan but the baby had moved the leg slightly.

Anyway, I now feel i’ve taken the element of surprise away completely. We have a sexing scan booked in 2 and a half weeks and I really wanted it to be a surprising moment, but I feel it now has to be boy if people see stacking?

Can anyone with any clue tell me if it’s possible that it is leg imaging and that it could still be a girl? I think with girl guesses there’s always still a chance it could be male, but with male guesses it’s pretty certain that there’s no chance of a female.

So middle pic is where some people see stacking, but the third pic was taken 2 mins later but not as zoomed in, and it looks like the stacking could be part of leg imaging?

I think it is a girl. Congrats x

VillageFete · 23/09/2018 09:04

@Maryam18 Thank you, we’re very excited to find out. Do you know much about nub theory etc or do you just think the scans look girly?

I'm just guessing tbh. The nub on my boys scan was quite obviously stacked and I think yours looks girly. Xxx

VillageFete · 23/09/2018 09:18

@Maryam18 Thanks for taking the time to reply. Stacking confuses me. I thought it needed to be really close/touching the nub? On my middle image it doesn’t seem very close to it, and it’s the most zoomed in pic that the sonographer took, so it’s baffling me!

I can see what you mean about the stacking, I’m not convinced that’s what it is, certainly looks like a bit of leg to me.

I’ve had two dc with very ambiguous 12 week scans, it’s so annoying isn’t it?!

I’d post these on the ingender website if you want more opinions, there are lots of people on there who really seem to know their stuff. For what it’s worth, I’m cautiously guessing girl based on those scan pics.

VillageFete · 23/09/2018 20:57

@TheCag Thanks so much for this. Are you leaning girl because of the nub? I just thought if it was stacking it would show on all pics? I was 13+1, so I thought stacking may be quite clear at that point?

I’m going to say boy but that’s just a guess x

ThorsMistress · 23/09/2018 21:25

I think boy. Your second picture the nub looks exactly like DS’s (see pic) Although I’m no expert!

I think girl x

VillageFete · 24/09/2018 07:19

@PurpleFlower1983 Thanks! Is this because the nub looks girly? The whole thing confuses me. X

If it isn’t stacking, then the nub is nice and straight which is why I’ve guessed girl. I wouldn’t put money on it though (because if I’d just seen that one middle image I’d be guessing boy).

I’m expecting dc3 so I’ve also been examining nub pictures a lot lately! I’d say it’s not an exact science but does seem to be right the majority of the time.

Eatmycheese · 24/09/2018 10:55

I think it’s tricky.
The middle one looks exactly like my two sons’ dating scan nubs as opposed to my daughters.
I don’t know what I think of the skull theory but my two boys had much flatter foreheads and squarer skulls my daughters was rounder.

So I’m swaying towards boy as I think overall skull and nub are male.

Congratulations either way though!

Thanks for the replies! I just thought if middle pic was definitely stacking, it would show on all pics? It seems to be possibly presenting itself as a leg on third image if i’m right? All the stacking pics i’ve seen seem to look like oval shapes almost directly on top of nub, but I haven’t done lots of research so that may not always be how it presents itself.

I did ask Sonographer what it was and he just said it’s at least a week to early to tell and that there was the umbilical cord and leg around that area too so not to get carried away either way.

OP, are you hoping for a girl? Try ingender, some experts on there who will be able to really explain it all to you Smile (they all guessed mine correctly!)

VillageFete · 24/09/2018 16:10

I am yes, simply because my 9 year old daughter is desperate for a sister! I know i’ll be thrilled with a beautiful healthy son, it’s more for her i’m leaning towards girl. I tried on there! One guess and it was a boy lean because they couldn’t be certain it was stacking.

Oh bless her Flowers keep 'bumping' your thread on there, I think a lot of users on that forum are in the USA, so different time zones. I'm personally torn as the stacking in the 2nd does look like part of the leg imaging in the 3rd, but as it's so close to the nub it's hard to tell!

VillageFete · 24/09/2018 16:24

My main concern is that I want some element of surprise in my gender/sexing scan. I know if it’s all girl guesses that there’s still a chance of boy because of the stacking situation, but if it’s all boy guesses because of stacking then it probably is a boy! Gut tells me girl, but is that just wishful thinking for my daughter?

OP posts:
ToBeARockAndNotToRoll · 24/09/2018 16:40

Oh I see. Maybe don't bump anymore on there then? It'll be a surprise for you anyway as you've had both girl and boy guesses on here, boy on there, and your gut tells you girl? Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy Smile

Boy or girl any ideas??

Adelais · 27/07/2019 14:21

That’s definitely a tricky one as I would have guessed girl from the first picture and boy from the second. You definitely have the element of surprise for your scan still as it really could go either way!

awww congratulations!! waiting for mine to arrive with a similar scan and getting too curious if it's a boy or a girl 😂😂

VillageFete · 05/09/2024 08:48

@cmf2011 Well I also have 2 daughters now and one of their scans looked EXACTLY like my son’s, so it honestly could still go either way as it could be the cord!
