Concerns over baby’s round belly

Went for 28 week scan and sono said everything perfect. Then went for obstetrics app and she said baby had round belly. I’m very overweight but I haven’t put on any weight so far through pregnancy. I’d been a bit constipated for a few days but also had eaten a lot more that week than usual as we had guests. The doc said they’d tell me more at my glucose test this week and if I don’t have gd they will discuss the options with me of having a big baby. I’m confused everything was normal and the right size then the doc tells me Round belly then big baby. Even my partner said he was confused to her. She then said everything’s normal but he has a round belly. We looked at the charts in the car and all the lines are in the centre which denotes normal nothing on there showing stomach out of place. Could it be down to me being constipated or the baby not pooing (did you know baby’s poo inside you) I never thought about it, or just a week of eating a lot and now I’ve gone back to normal will everything go back to normal. but I feel really guilty that I’ve harmed the baby. Any one else had this.

I may be wrong but I believe be chart is more to do with the length of the baby?

Hopefully all will be fine.

Was the AC plotted on there? That's abdominal circumference and does indicate if higher range that baby might be measuring large. BUT they will send you for a more detailed scan I'm sure and do testing before they worry you too much,so please try not to worry.

Baby - there would be likely three graphs on a growth scan - a head circumference,an abdominal circumference and a femur length normally, which all input to estimate foetal weight

And Katy - please don't feel that you have harmed your baby. Being constipated or how much you have eaten won't play any part in these measurements. The measurements will vary throughout pregnancy, and like I said they will do a detailed growth scan, probably a glucose tolerance test etc before any final decisions

I had a scan at 28 weeks large tummy on baby. They showed on a scale like low average big - he was off the end of big. I didn't have Gestional diabetes and I am of normal weight / BMI. I did gain weight during my pregnancy of course. My baby was a big boy at birth, but totally in proportion.

Hi just to let you know baby is here and two weeks old, he was nothing like they estimate. 8lb 3 and 33cm. He’s perfect

My baby had a large stomach circumference too. She was just a chubby baby though. Now 18 months and starting to slim down.
