So I am 25 weeks so still a long way to go but I like to be organised :-) I have been buying a few bits and pieces clothes wise over the past month or so and have just been given a HUGE bundle of hand me downs by two friends. Just done a sort through and here is what I have. What do u think? Also, some say they are 1-3 months others 0-3 months, is there much difference? Some look a bit bigger but I can't tell if that is just the shop/brand more than anything! For the sake of my checking I've lumped them all in together as 'the same size'

Newborn:
Sleepsuit - 25
Leggings with feet - 5
Long sleeve vest - 6
Short sleeve vest - 12
Cardis - 4

0-3 months/1-3 months:
Sleepsuits - 15
Leggings with feet - 6
Long sleeve vest - 9
Short sleeve vest - 1
Soft dungarees /rompers type - 4
Cardi - 4

Other stuff:
Socks 20
Bib 2
Muslins in various sizes 13

Immediately I can see I need more short sleeve vests 0-3 but any thing else u can see? We don't know if we are having a boy or girl so we just want to have enough for the first few months and then we can buy more. And no doubt people will gift stuff too. Thanks for your help!

That's a lot of sleepsuits! Can you take some back? Unless you only intend to put the washing machine on once a fortnight.

Bobojangles · 22/09/2018 18:36

Unless you get a puker like my first! He was changed about 6 times a day!

BikeRunSki · 22/09/2018 18:40

Keep them all! That is more than enough to get you started, but you nicer know how often your baby will need changing. Add to your O-3 size clothes once you get a feel for what you are using. You may also get a lot of clothes for presents.

Way too many new born size sleepsuits unless u get a very small baby.

I wouldn't bother buying any short sleeve vests as it will be cold.

Think you need alot more bibs. Although the Muslims might do you here so I think u are pretty much sorted

twobambinos · 22/09/2018 18:50

1-3 and 0-3 I'd say are similar enough and 0-3 if they have been washed a few times will be smaller than they originally would have been

If you or DH are fairly slight I'd get some vest extenders (bits of fabric with poppers either end) which makes vests last a lot longer - and limits the ability of child to escape from too wide vest! I'd honestly stick with what you have for now and get things when you have an idea what build your child is - I really struggled with ASDA as too wide and short and got on well with H&M and Vertbaudet...

Every shop is different! I found JL came up big, H and M small, joules to size, m and s long but slim (perfect), jo jo small for baby stuff but now finding toddler stuff v generous!

Also how much you need depends on puking / pooing. My first didn’t vom at all so would have happily been in the same outfit for a week!!!!

wafflesandpeas · 22/09/2018 20:18

My little girl was only in new born size for 2 weeks. So I'd leave it for now, you've got plenty to be getting on with, then once your baby arrives you'll know what sizes you need.

CowInTheMeadow · 22/09/2018 21:19

Definitely no more newborn stuff, my son came out at over 4 kilos and didn't even fit the 0-3 month sleepsuits I had taken to the hospital (they were JL which came up small, he did fit other brands' 0-3).

I agree you've got plenty for now, you can get whatever extra bits you need when the baby arrives.

Congratulations by the way!

Thanks all! Of a the newborn stuff I have only bought 3 sleepsuits! The rest is handmedowns, so no, can't really take it back! I knew we had more than enough new born but wasn't sure about the 0-3 so that's good to know. Won't get anything more other than a few bibs maybe. Glad we are good to go with our clothes!
