Brown discharge @ 10 weeks pregnant

Hi everyone,

I am currently 10 weeks (today) pregnant with my 2nd baby. Last night I went to the loo and when I wiped I first noticed some like peach colour discharge on the toilet roll then I wiped a few more times and noticed a brown smear. I did pass a bowel movement so not sure if this triggered anything. Since then I have gone back to having clear discharge. I did not contact any professionals as thought it better to keep an eye on it. I haven’t had any scans yet but I am booked in for one in 2 weeks.

All day I have felt nauseous and my stomach is churning away. I have also passed two more bowel movements today which is unusual but I feel it’s probably the anxiety of it all. In my first pregnancy I experienced bright red bleeding around 12 weeks after sex but went on to have a healthy pregnancy. I did have a low lying placenta but this moved later in pregnancy. I am wondering if maybe this is something I have again - if possible. I did have sex 3 days ago and it had been a while so not sure if this could have been related.

I can’t stop worrying about it and it is impacting on my sleep :(

Any advice??

I think always go to midwife/EPU/a+e if you're worried tomorrow. Maybe phone and speak to someone first.

I had brown bleeding at 10 weeks too (discharge really, just on wiping). I'd had it before at 7 weeks, baby fine then, so I waited a few days before going to EPU. Baby was fine on scan.

I'm now 21 weeks and had another small amount of brown bleeding again this week. Was examined at hospital (was there for a scan anyway) and all OK again, although I was told to come to the hospital to be checked if it happens again. I've got a low lying placenta and it's almost certainly due to that.

Really hope everything is OK with you Smile

Thanks for your reply. I didn’t contact anyone because I felt it was worse case scenario there isn’t anything they could do anyway. It was literally only twice and nothing since. I’ll keep an eye on it and see how I get on in the week.

I hope everything goes well in your pregnancy xx

I'm 8 weeks pregnant and I've had this for almost a week. I went to see the doctor and she wasn't the least bit concerned. She sent me for an early scan and everything was exactly as it should be. She just told me to take it easy. Might be worth calling the doctor for your own reassurance?? I'm sorry because I know how stressful this is.

I had brown bleeding/spotting since like week 6 and a half and I didn’t do anything about it until what I thought was week 8 because I read that brown blood is ‘old blood’ and as long as you have no pain it should be alright. I had told my midwife at my booking appointment but she didn’t do anything about it. The day after my blood turned slightly red so I panicked and went to A&E where they checked my urine and bloods and referred me to an early scan the next day. The wait was terrible but at the scan I got to see my little bean with a heartbeat and instead of 8 weeks they estimated I was 7 weeks and 4 days. They didn’t detect any bleeding on the scan which is strange because I’m still spotting now a few days later but I’m much more reassured after seeing the baby! Hang in there I’ll have my fingers crossed for you x

Thanks everyone for your advice.

I woke up this morning to some more brown discharge/blood when wiping. It’s also showing abit on my underwear. I phoned the Hospital and was advised to just keep an eye on it because there’s not much they can do at the weekends. I think I’ll phone my EPU on Monday morning and see if they will offer me a scan. I’d prefer just to know either way now because I have my 9 month old little girl to look after and it’s difficult to focus when constantly thinking about bleeding and miscarriages !

I went a&e on Thursday night as i noticed i had been bleeding when i wiped myself.

They done my bloods and made me come back yesterday for a scan.
The baby was fine and there was a heartbeat and the midwife said everything looked fine and im measuring 7 weeks 4 days.

Last night i had some bleeding again and some period like pains. Its hard not to worry but hopefully everything will be ok xx

Another update :

Still having brown spotting but had a scan at EPAU this morning and baby was perfect and dates matching up to 10 weeks. No explanation regarding the bleeding though.
