So I'm 18 weeks. And I've been in bed most of today as I'm on a night shift tonight...but I dunno why my heart feels like it's racing a bit and I feel a bit short of breath....not sure why as I've not done nothing all day apart from drift in and out of sleep to prepare for tonight. Anyone got any idea's as to what it might be??

could you be anemic? I suffer heart palpitation's and shortness of breath a lot and I'm anemic, hope whatever it is gets sorted soon! x

I don't think so no. And midwife has never picked up on anything anyway. I just don't know what it is. I just know I defo don't feel 100% percent today although I don't feel unwell or anything like that. Just this strange feeling I have

I had very similar to this yesterday! Was VERY breathless and didn’t feel like I owned my body if that makes sense! Confused
But I felt very uneasy but couldn’t pin it, slept well and feel fine today! Could it be your blood sugars that’s what midwife suggested today when I mentioned it

Have you been lying on your back? I found that made me feel really breathless from quite early on.

SuperVeggie · 21/09/2018 20:33

Hi OP I started getting the same feeling around 18-19 weeks too. Suddenly feeling like my heart couldn't manage to pump round my body properly if that makes sense! Sort of palpitations and breathless but not poorly. My heart would race for no reason, even when just sat down. I went to docs and they sent me for an EEG trace which was normal. They said it's common in pregnancy and probably your body just getting used to the extra blood volume. But I'd get checked out anyway to rule out anything else.

SuperVeggie · 21/09/2018 20:34

Forgot to say, the only thing that was 'off' with me was my blood pressure quite low, and a lot lower than it usually is, but no thanks dangerously slow. Consultant said it goes lower in second trimester and some women take a while to get used to it. So could be low BP?

SuperVeggie · 21/09/2018 20:35

*not dangerously low. Bloody autocorrect.

surreygirl1987 · 21/09/2018 22:35

Oh I get that. I've had it since around 28 weeks and still have it at 39 weeks. It a really annoying. I told mt midwife who referred me to the GP who wanted me checked out at hospital... which I was surprised about as I read on the internet that it isn't uncommon. I also have low blood pressure and am am slightly anemic so it sounds like there is a pattern emerging on this thread! Tell your midwife but i wouldn't worry as it sounds common.

surreygirl1987 · 21/09/2018 22:37

Oh also do you have a fitbit? I do and it's useful to see what your heart rate is doing when you feel like that.. Mine definitely spikes - usually 80 resting but randomly went up to 121 the other day when I was just sitting there!!
