Hi all, I am 25 weeks pregnant and had my GTT Test today. I fasted from 10pm and had the first lot of blood taken. About an hour after the sugary drink I had a real funny turn, I stared sweating and my vision went funny and felt really dizzy. It passed after a few minutes.

Is this a sign I should be expecting a positive or can this be a normal reaction? If any of you got a positive, how long was it before the results?

I have also PROM'd at 21 weeks so I am being monitored weekly at the moment and I know the two can be connected.

Thanks in advance xx

I felt like complete crap after my GTT. Headachey, sick, bit dizzy. Generally grim all day. My test was completely fine. Hope you get a good result.

ButAIBUtho · 19/09/2018 22:34

PROM'd?

jasmin93 · 19/09/2018 22:39

I had my test in tuesday and today (next day) they already called me. My test came back positive for GD.
On friday i will see a dietrician and receive my blood meter (?). Same day we scheduled a growth scan. I am 34+4 btw. Flowers

Loulou85x · 19/09/2018 22:57

Hi @jasmin93 sorry to hear that, how did you feel during the test. Was it similar? Wishing all goes well for you

@BridgeFarmKefir thanks - maybe it means it could be negative then hopefully Smile

@ButAIBUtho preterm rupture of membrane. Waters part breaking early, not fun.

Xx

Oh wow, I've not heard of that abbreviation.

ButAIBUtho · 19/09/2018 23:02

OP out of interest what time was your GTT test?

My first one is at 08.40 which is fine. But I've just found out my second one is at 09.40 so I will be going 14 hours on just water which is a bit harsh. I think I will be dizzy and spinning out by then.

sophiec123 · 19/09/2018 23:04

I had the same reaction, I felt terrible and dizzy and like my heart was thumping out of my chest! My results showed that I did have gestational diabetes (as I expected)

However, I should mention, many people say the GTT test is awful whether the results show they have gestational diabetes or not

Pepper123123 · 19/09/2018 23:08

I have something similar to what you describe every now and again. Only when I'm pregnant.

I know when it's coming.

I get a feeling of dread, my heart starts racing, I sweat like crazy and then my vision and hearing goes weird. It passes after a minute or so.

I told my midwife about it, she suggested it was my blood pressure dropping. This was the possible explanation I was given on my last pregnancy too.

So could be unrelated?

jasmin93 · 19/09/2018 23:09

@Loulou85, sorry my full message didnt post. I felt normal all day and thought i would get a negative result back. I was wrong though... In general i dont feel any different Hmm i had none of your symptoms. But everyone is different i guess ? Fingers crossed you are okay.
Should you test positive, they ring you asap. Not hearing from them is a good sign. Tomorrow you will know hopefully. Fingers crossed for you Flowers xx

Loulou85x · 19/09/2018 23:12

I felt the same way! Sick, dizzy & light headed. I had my first lot of blood taken at 9:30 (5 viles!) and the second at 11:30. DP made me sit in the Costa cafe in the hospital with all the food Hmm

Sjb10 · 19/09/2018 23:38

I had my GTT last week, I felt fine during the test and fasting. Skipped off back home and then had a call the next day to say I do have GD Confused I thought I would have symptoms but I guess not!

Uncreative · 20/09/2018 01:37

I felt like absolute shit during and after my GTT. Haven’t got the results yet though. I think it is normal to feel rough during and after. I was convinced I would spend the rest of the day puking my guts up. Not sure what effect that would have on the result!

SavanahXx · 20/09/2018 02:50

I had my GTT last Monday, I fasted from 9pm Sunday, had my bloods done at 10am, then drank the drink, then took a funny turn pretty much straight away. I felt sick, but had to kind of force it away, because apparently if you're sick, you have to do it all over again another day. I kept on overheating, and going very dizzy, I ended up sitting outside for the last hour before my second bloods because I couldn't cope being sat inside! at around quarter past 12 I had my second set of bloods I felt even worse! DP already had a drink, some crisps and a chocolate bar at the ready for me, for a quick sugar burst to see if that would make me better. it didn't 😒😒 and even after some dinner and tea, I still felt crappy! so I had an early night, I worried about my results because of how I reacted to the GTT, but I get a negative for GD. I think everyone might react differently? I'm not sure.
I have my fingers crossed for you Flowers x

Gemsie1984 · 20/09/2018 03:37

I had my GTT Friday and got a call Monday to say it's positive.
I felt a bit dizzy after the drink and my heart rate shot up to 132bpm for a good 20-30 minutes. Felt a bit shaky too. Then felt like my body was crashing, like I hadn't eaten in about three days. Got home and demolished a sandwich and banana in about 3 minutes! I then fell asleep for two hours and woke up feeling okay.

LiquoricePickle · 20/09/2018 04:30

I had no GD. Perfect score on the bloods. However, I puked for the rest of the day, had hot flushes and almost passed out. It's the thing I'm dreading the most in my current pregnancy.

ButAIBUtho · 20/09/2018 11:27

Why does it make everyone feel so ill?

Is it just the hunger? Or does the drink itself make you feel horrific?

Uncreative · 20/09/2018 11:34

I don’t think it was hunger for me but the sugar on an empty stomach was not nice. Morning sickness was also a factor. Having to drink it so quickly was tough - I think it needs to be down in less than five minutes. It isn’t vile but it isn’t nice enough to want to gulp it down. I wasn’t hungry when I left after the test. I think I made a point of having carbs after though.

usernotfound0000 · 20/09/2018 11:42

I've been tested in both pregnancies due to family history. Last time I felt dreadful and as you describe, a few times I thought I would pass out. I felt mostly fine when I was tested this time. Both tests were negative.

LiquoricePickle · 20/09/2018 13:35

I think it's an unfortunate combination of empty stomach, too much sugar and no food to follow and the nerves!

Loulou85x · 20/09/2018 13:55

Thanks everyone, I haven't had a call yet so I'm hoping no news is good news. I think they would call me back quite quickly had they been positive! (Hopefully)

Hi, I had the test 2 days ago, still waiting for results (but they said it would take a week). I was absolutely starving, pain in tummy from hunger from the fasting but I didn’t find the drink sickly, I was just desperate to glug water and I wasn’t allowed.

I’m only 22 weeks which seems a lot earlier than most people... did anyone else have it at this point? I have no history of diabetes and BMI at booking was 24 but baby is measuring with enlarged abdomen on two scans now

Uncreative · 20/09/2018 22:20

@le42 - I had it at 8 weeks but I had already had some blood work done that was borderline so they wanted to double check. Also, I am not in the UK at the moment, I am in Australia where the system is much more proactive.
