Hello,
I'm relatively new to mumsnet. DP and I are currently expecting our first DC, so very excited but also at the same time very worried. I have no idea what to expect, so was hoping I could post some of my worries here and get some advice. I do apologize if this is the wrong area.

My main concern is Gestational Diabetes. I know I get tested at 28 weeks (I think) for this, and I've heard that women who have this during pregnancy can tend to have bigger babies. My partner was 10lbs when he was born, and I was 8.5lbs myself. I haven't eaten too healthily as I have been craving sugary snacks and crisps. I have limited my sugar intake and the amount of crisps I eat now. Have started eating more healthily, swapping white bread for brown, eating crackers and the like when hungry. I take my pregnancy vitamins everyday, but would I have already done some damage to my baby?

Also, I am worried about giving birth to a large baby. Is that silly? It seems I hear nothing but horror stories. Everyone that sees me is like 'Omg, aren't you big?! Are you sure it's not twins?' and it just adds to my worry that I'm going to have a large baby.

Has anyone else had this worry? Or am I just being silly?

Same here! My DH was a huge baby with a big head (my MIL loves to tell me how painful it was for her lol) so I had exactly the same worries as you. And I'm a week overdue nowGrin
Ate a lot of sweets throughout my pregnancy, no GD, I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Your MW will take measurements of your bump to see if the baby is not too big and will send you for and additional scan if it is. And if you will develop GD they will monitor you closely and you will be able to go for and early induction
Enjoy your pregnancy Wink
