Help please!

39+1 and last night I was led in bed and had the most awful lower back pain coupled up with period type pain too. Managed to sleep with no further episodes. Until this morning. I would say I’ve had 4-5 episodes of this back pain accompanied with period pain and my bump going tight.

I can’t time them as they can be really close but then go hours with nothing! Is it worth a call?

Urgh I feel your pain; I've had this for the last 2 weeks. Am currently 37 weeks and having weekly sweeps to encourage baby to come early as they're worried the constant contractions are distressing for baby. Luckily for me the contractions have finally started dilating me.

I would suggest calling the assessment unit and just asking for advice. They'll likely tell you to time them, and if they become 5 minutes apart or you have a show/waters breaking then they'll ask you to come in, especially as you're practically due now. Always worth calling the unit and asking for advice rather than insisting you go in to them, as in my experience that's when they get really short and impatient, but you never know!

Call them, just be prepared for them to say 'nothing we can do unless they progress'.

However, at this point in your pregnancy, could easily ramp up quickly to active labour so keep an eye on things, and best of luck!! x

Definitely possible. I was in 'early' labour from Monday morning until Wednesday night and then DS was born 9am Thursday morning.

Thank you for your replies.

Just had another episode which lasted 10-15 seconds and was definitely pressure and period type pain, along with my lower back being agony.

Fingers crossed I’m not waiting long!
