Restless legs....

I am 6 weeks but this is driving me mad, not least because it's keeping me awake and I really need my sleep at the moment.

Can anyone suggest anything that will help?

A couple of 'remedies'- Banana and milk before you go to bed. Also drinking tonic water in the day. I suffer from this and I end up getting up for another hour until I am so tired that I fall asleep before they bother me. OK for me because I'm now on maternity but not such a good solution for you . Try the banana/ milk and tonic water though. Also maybe some foot and leg spritz to cool them down?

I occasionally get this but also get restless shoulder in one arm too almost every night. For that I get up and swing my arm round a few times and shake it all out. For legs I pretend I'm running in bed for a little bit (bit annoying for DH but better than tossing n turning for hours). It seems to relieve them just enough for me to get off to sleep.

I'm now 20+2 so will have to find another solution for legs soon. When I was pregnant with DS1 I used to prop myself up in bed on 4 pillows and put the flats of my feet together (OK if you don't have SPD) or pull them up towards my chin, anything to the muscles were a little bit active. Again this seemed to relive em just enough for me to drop off.

Oh sympathies beansprout, I have had restless legs throughout this pregnancy (dh is getting very used to being kicked at regular intervals!). No good advice to add except the banana/milk thing - it's the calcium and the potassium involved that make the difference. I have a bowl of cereal before bed each night, and if I can't manage it then I really know about it - the milk does seem to make a difference. Not a banana fan at all but will occasionally tolerate one if it's really bad and it does help. Good luck!

Hi - am new here and 12 weeks pregnant (with twins!) - I had terrible restless legs too with my previous 2 pregnancies and was told by a health practitioner (tho I do not have his credentials to vouch for this) that magnesium would help. It seemed to work for me. My doctor has said that it should be safe to take in small doses.

I suppose bananas and milk can never hurt too

Thanks for all your replies. The banana and milk thing seems to get a unanimous vote, will definitely try it!
Is skimmed or semi-skimmed ok?
