We have different terms for baby clothes. Can anyone create a link that shows me the difference between the following:

babygro

cotten vest / stretchsuit

I'd be forever grateful!

babygro usually has full length legs, and feet in, with poppers down the front (or sometimes down the back

vest - either t-shirt style, or has poppers between the legs

stretchsuit - another term for babygro I think - can also be called sleepsuit

where are you from?

babygro implies that the garment has arms and legs, and probably feet.

a vest is sometimes also called a body suit, or I think in some countries a 'onesie'. (or it could be a vest - sleeveless top which I think Americans call an 'undershirt'.)

Thanks Ladies,

I'm from the US. Your "vests" are our "onesies." I'm not actually sure what we call the other suits as I've never been around babies back home. I was reading a list of what to take to the hospital and it did seem to make a difference bettween a stretchsuit and a babygro - I guess they meant longsleeve and legs but not with feet and hands?

Six and a half more weeks to go! yay!

babygro is like a bin bag with the bottom all sewn up with holes for arms like a vest at the top and a zip all the way from the neck to the bottom of the bin bag

No - that's a Grobag/baby sleeping bag. A babygro is an all-in-one suit with sleeves, legs and usually feet, fastened with poppers or a zip. The integral feet mean you don't have to think about socks (which fall off).

I had a May baby and he mostly wore short sleeved vests (with poppers at the crotch) underneath babygros until the weather got warmer.

The blue one is a babygrow or sleepsuit, the white one is a vest or bodysuit
