Hey

I did mention in a post before (I think I did.. baby brain) that while I had my 12 week scan the woman, who clearly just wanted to rush and get me out, was scanning me and when she put the scanner to my belly again the image/baby had completely flipped as if there was another one.. my heart sank as for a brief second I thought there was two (not a bad thing, just a bit of shock) and then when she picked up the scanner and put it back down the baby was back the other way.. but not as if the baby moved as it was far too quick..
The lady doing my scan honestly was not bothered in the slightest. I think they were running about an hour behind and it was edging closer to lunch time that I wouldn’t have been surprised if she wasn’t 100% thorough (without sounding super rude!)

Can the way they hold the scanner make the images flip??? I’ve tried googling this but nothing is coming up!

I really look forward to seeing what people say 😂 xx

Just to add it wasn’t the screen which flipped the image it was as soon as she put the scanner down

I have no idea but you are obviously worried. Can you afford to go and have a private scan (about £40) to put your mind at rest?

I'm not an expert in any way but you'd be surprised at how quickly they can move at that gestation. My first was honestly unreal. A real wee jumping bean. Upside down and round again in a blink of an eye!

Also I think sonographers are really highly trained and very careful. I don't think they'd do you wrong at all

Heatherbaby · 16/09/2018 18:57

Do you think there may have been 2, because however flippant the sonographer, they will check for multiples and it would be much more obvious to a trained professional.

The image can flip different ways because my baby was back to front or upside down to what i thought I'd see and they flipped it for me when it came to giving me a print out to take home.

I hope that puts your mind at ease as I know you look in to and read in to every detail at scans etc. If you really feel there's more than 1 in there, mention it at your midwife appt and see what your MW thinks x

Yes if you place the probe in the opposite way it will show an opposite image
She must have placed the probe down, realised she had it the wrong way then turned it around
Nothing to worry about Smile

Brilliant, thank you everyone ! Annoyingly google couldn’t give me the answers that I needed!
I’m sure it’s just the one but I think it’s normal to wonder especially after briefly seeing that!
I think we are going to book a scan for this week. We found some availability and we want to find out if we are having blue or pink! I’m sure it’s just the one bambino but I will update once we’ve had it anyway xx

Midwife flipped probe around with me 2 weeks ago and yes it makes baby appear to be the other way so I'm sure you just have the one!

SoyDora · 17/09/2018 07:17

What is it that you’re worried about? There being more than one baby? The sonographer would have noticed, don’t worry!
