Can anyone help me make sense of these dates? Confused

So my due date is the 31st October, I had set my last day at work as the 17th October thinking that I’d be 37 weeks on the day I leave giving me 2 weeks until my due date. However I’m now looking at the calendar, today I’m 33+4 so I will be 34 weeks on Wednesday coming, meaning the date I actually go on maternity leave I’ll be 38 weeks. Is your EDD always 39 weeks?

Can someone make sense of this, my brain feels a bit fried from trying to work it out Confused I’m just worried that the baby could come sooner than expected as I had hoped for 2 weeks at home.

Your edd is 40 weeks. But babies can, and do come at any time and normal full term can be any time between 37 and 42 weeks!

I'm confused.

I think the error is in your first sentence. If you finish 17 October you would be 38 weeks to give you 2 weeks as you say, 31st being 40. That ties in with the rest of your dates.

Oh ok, I always thought the EDD would be around 39 weeks. I hope I can change my dates with this short notice Shock

@cherrypie18 do you need to change dates?

Leaving at 38 weeks still gives you 2 weeks at home (in theory - babies come when they please!) x

Leaving at 38 weeks should still give you a 2 week gap in theory.

You'll be 38 weeks on the 17th which gives you 2 weeks off before your due date at 40 weeks.

Thanks everyone, I get it now. I think I just was so focused on dates I kind of got that idea in my head. It is a scary thought reminding yourself that the baby could come in 3 weeks!
